PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER

Let's start at the beginning, in Room 1 of the middle school. That's where Jeremy Portillo '16 and Francis Castillo y Mulert '16 (pictured above) are installing classroom furniture a few days before school opens. All summer, Francis and Jeremy worked with our tremendous maintenance team and Sarcon Construction to complete the overhaul of every classroom in the middle school. You will be dazzled when you walk into the classrooms; know that many long hoursand tens of thousands of dollarswere spent to create spaces that will inspire our middle schoolers and faculty.

But all across the school, far beyond the middle school quad, energy is building for the start of school. Each day this week, more faculty are preparing their classrooms, athletes are joining preseason workouts, students are volunteering their time and expertise (special shout-out to rising senior Ariel Whitten for her work in technology!), groups of teachers are planning activities and projects. We'll open on Monday with 313 students, and we'll be ready and eager to begin. Here we go.
PARENTS' ASSOCIATION NEWS
PA President, Aline Ellis with hubby, Terry '84

Welcome back from what we hope was a rejuvenating summer. We are looking forward to a new school year and the exploration and discoveries that come with it. We also send a welcome to the 82 new kids and their families we have this year at Prep—if you’re a returning parent or student, make sure to say “Hello” to any new faces you see on campus.

We are thrilled to announce that Aline Ellis, Prep class of 1985, mother of 11th grader Taylor and 8th grader Peyton, will be our new PA President. Our fantastic PA President from the last two years, Margaret Hennessey, will be Vice President, Mitch Koolpe remains as Secretary and Chriss O’Neill remains our Treasurer. We give a big thank you to last year’s VP, Julie Murray, and to all our grade representatives from 2014-2015.

The PA alternates monthly meetings between mornings and evenings (always the first Wednesday of each month) to give working parents more options. The first meeting will be Wednesday, September 2nd at 8:15 am in the Prep Library. Please join us.

All parents are automatically members of the PA and the meetings are a great way to stay in touch with what's happening at the school, ask questions, and to meet and mingle. We have a superb team of parent grade reps this year who will help with activities and communications, so check the PA page on the school website for updates and contact information.

Generating Impact Capital Campaign and Sustaining Fund Thank You

Last year was an invigorating one for fundraising at Prep and we thank all of you who made it so. We raised close to $2 million for our $14 million capital campaign, Generating Impact: Prep Beyond 50, leaving a little more than $1 million left to raise this year to reach our final campaign goal. Our capital campaign donors made the new Middle School classrooms and our beautiful Sun Mountain field possible. They enabled us to offer tuition assistance to 41% of our families and significantly increase access to a Prep education for bright and talented kids throughout so many neighborhoods of Santa Fe. They also perpetuated our celebrated Breakthrough Program, which helps motivated students in grades 7-12 from underserved public schools be the first in their families to go to college, through the creation of an endowment.

We also surpassed our goal for the annual Sustaining Fund with more than 500 parents, alumni, grandparents, alumni parents and friends contributing $589,000.

Every dollar we raise annually goes to strengthening the community of Santa Fe, and to our kids, teachers, and programs so Prep can create access to new talent and ensure that each student at Prep gets a rewarding education that will last a lifetime.
