From Troy to the Classroom
|
Brett Rogers, professor and chair of Greek, Latin, and Ancient Mediterranean Studies, has published an article on the MLA Style Center's website about how teachers can incorporate Christopher Nolan's adaptation of The Odyssey in their curriculum. The article, titled "Three Strategies for Using Christopher Nolan’s Odyssey in Your Classroom; or, Getting Them Off Their Trojan Hobbyhorse," is adapted from Rogers' chapter in Approaches to Teaching Homer's Odyssey (Modern Language Association of America, 2026).
"At the end of the day, there are many different ways we can use a modern version of an ancient poem, such as Nolan’s Odyssey, in the classroom," Rogers writes. "More important, I think, is that we do this work at all ... so that our students can sharpen their reading and critical thinking skills, can get thinking about ancient and modern values, and can understand how works from classical antiquity continue to be tremendous resources for making sense of and responding to so many facets of our lives."

Love Letter From the Afterlife
|
Alumna Christi Offutt ’91 served as an executive producer for Love Letter From the Afterlife, a film about the late poet and activist Andrea Gibson. Offut previously executive-produced a documentary about Gibson, Come See Me in the Good Light, which was nominated for an Academy Award. Love Letter From the Afterlife will be screening across North America this fall as part of a tour that includes a "multimedia mash-up of film, poetry, music, orchestral accompaniment, and storytelling in Gibson’s honor," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The 2026 football season is upon us, and the Loggers are ready to build from the foundation set in 2025. Last season, the Puget Sound football team boasted one of the top offensive attacks in the nation. For only the sixth time in NCAA history, three Logger wide receivers had 1,000-yard seasons. Passing to them was senior quarterback Hayden Teeter ’26, who broke six school passing records and three NCAA DIII single-game records of his own. Head coach Jeff Thomas is looking to build on the momentum and is confident that the work put in during the offseason will set the team up for success.
"We recalibrated how we did offseason conditioning, along with our skill development and weight training," said Thomas. "There wasn't part of the training program we didn't improve. I'm looking forward to our gains, both in strength and speed, but also in the understanding of our playbook. It's allowed us to be able to start at a much higher level than we have in the past."
