U.S. Department of State Update: Visa Appointment Locations
|
Effective September 6, 2025, all applicants for U.S. nonimmigrant visas (i.e., J-1, F-1, and H-1B) must schedule their visa appointments in their country of nationality or residence. Although existing appointments generally will not be canceled, applying outside one’s home country may increase the risk of denial and lost fees. Students and scholars are advised to check estimated visa wait times and consult embassy websites before making travel plans.
