As you look ahead to next term, the Winter 2024 Course Resources are here for you, including the updated Syllabus Starter and new course templates from UO Online to streamline your Canvas design.
Please review the end-of-term academic policies reminder regarding final exams, reporting student progress, and student absences related to university-sponsored events and accommodations.
Grading and other end-of-term activities raise the likelihood of technological issues. UO Online’s service center and the IT Service Portal are resources to avoid or solve problems with Canvas and other systems.
Full professors interested in supporting a new faculty colleague can do so while earning a $1,000 stipend. Apply to be a convener for the New Assistant Professor Launch Committee by Dec. 11.
Consider nominating a colleague or student whose contributions demonstrate a commitment to making our UO community more welcoming and respectful for the Reverend Dr. MLK Awards by noon on Dec. 16.
Join the Center on Diversity and Community (CoDaC) starting Jan. 6 for weekly writing circles to help you protect significant time for the writing and research projects that are important to you.
Submit your Clark Honors College Faculty Fellow application by Jan. 6 for the opportunity to work with engaged students across disciplines and devote departmental service to our interdisciplinary faculty community.
The Faculty Research Award supports projects where funding is critical to project launch or continuation. It provides up to $10K to faculty members who do not currently have a significant active externally funded research award. Apply by Jan. 21.
The Research Seed Grants competition supports faculty in acquiring preliminary data and developing a competitive proposal for significant external funding. Apply by Jan. 21.
Join UO's Classroom Polling Technology discussion as part of the faculty workgroup or by attending an individual roundtable to assess campus needs and make a case for a centrally funded and supported polling tool. Email Ben Brinkley, director of teaching and learning technology in Information Services, to sign up.
EVENTS AND OPPORTUNITIES
DEC. 10 Attend the Understanding Islamophobia with Islamic Networks Group to explore the roots and dominant tropes of Islamophobia, examining its impact on Muslim and Arab American communities. It concludes by proposing strategies to combat Islamophobia at both interpersonal and institutional levels.
DEC. 17-20 Reward yourself for your hard work this term at the Winter Week of Writing. Invest in your most important writing projects in a supportive, inclusive, and festive environment.
JAN. 9UO Faculty Club will reconvene for winter term. Join us on Thursdays for this casual networking time with snacks and beverages from 4 to 6 p.m. in the JSMA.
JAN. 9 Join us in-person or virtually on Thursdays for the Science Teaching Journal Club where we will read Teaching and Learning STEM: A Practical Guide.
