With July bringing the heat to North Texas, water activities are a great way to cool down. But when dealing with bodies of water, safety is a must. Here are some tips from Texas Parks and Wildlife to stay safe while on or in the water:
Fair Park in Dallashosts the annualFair Park Fourthevent at 5:30 p.m., Friday. The free event features local market vendors, entertainment and live music and ends the night with a fireworks show.
UNT will be closed for the holiday and classes will not be held on Friday, July 4.
HANDSHAKE HOW-TO
For many students summertime often means summer jobs, and Handshake is here to help! Handshake is a job-search site specifically catered to current college students, recent graduates and alumni.
The site allows you to set job preferences, including job position, industry, location and major to filter jobs recommended for you. You also can sign up on the site for career fairs, workshops and other events.
Speaking of getting a job, students who need to polish their resume or brush up on their interview skills, need look no further than UNT’s Career Center.
Located in Sage Hall, the Career Center works to ensure that all students are ready for the job market. Whether you need business cards, LinkedIn headshots or someone to help you as you write your cover letter, the center can assist.

If you’re having trouble typing your thesis or powering through your procrastination, the Toulouse Graduate School is here to help with graduate Writing Wednesday and Typing Thursday workshops. At these events graduate students can get dedicated writing time for their theses, dissertations, grant proposals and more.
Writing Wednesdays and Typing Thursdays are hosted every Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Chestnut Hall.
