Arrival Checklist

Please make sure you have completed the following before your arrival to the U.S or to campus:

Airport Pickup and Check-In Procedures

Airport Pickup
August 12, 9:00 - 10:00 am
ISSS staff and iPOLs will be at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Cincinnati Airport  checking in those students who registered for transportation to campus.

ISSS Check-in
August 12 - August 20, 8:00 - 5:00 pm
Graduate students arriving on their own (who are not in quarantine) should: 1) get their Miami ID from Campus Services in Nellie Craig Walker Hall; 2) check-in with ISSS for orientation directions at the International Student Center, MacMillan Hall, room 017 (enter through the back parking lot of MacMillan Hall)
During check-in, students should receive their orientation schedule, iPOL small group assignment, student health service appointment details, and other orientation materials.

Quarantining Off Campus

Those self-quarantining off campus are expected to remain in their apartment, with the exception of COVID-19 testing 3-5 days after arrival in the U.S.
Quarantine Release
Students who are quarantining will NOT receive a notice of quarantine release, but can consider their quarantine period to have begun upon their initial entry into the U.S. and end 7 days thereafter.

Suggestions for Packing Your Bags

Do not pack more than you can physically carry. Even if you are registered for airport hotel to campus transporation, you will be responsible for carrying your luggage to your residence hall or apartment.
Recommendation during travel: always have important documents (Passport, tickets, I-20/DS-2019, etc.) on your person, not in your checked baggage. Carry a change of clothes and necessary toiletries.

Recommended items to bring when you come to Miami University
  • $250 in cash or credit/debit card that can be used in the U.S. to get you through your first few days before opening a bank account. (Note: ISSS does not recommend bringing large amounts of cash with you when traveling. Also note that Miami’s Oxford campus is cashless and does not accept paper money as a form of payment.)
  • Smart Phone with relevant apps downloaded (Duo, Canvas, ridesharing, maps, etc.) and charger for U.S. electrical outlets
  • Clothing appropriate for the season. Check the weather for Oxford, OH before travel.
  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Rain and sun protection (umbrella, hat, sunscreen lotion, etc.)
  • Toiletries (travel sized: toothbrush and tooth paste, shampoo, body wash, etc.)
  • Snacks and a water bottle to have on hand until you can purchase food in dining hall, restaurant or grocery store
  • Facemask and hand sanitizer
Items you may buy in Oxford:
  • Bedding (pillow, blanket, sheets, etc.) and towels
  • Laundry basket, detergent, iron & ironing board, hangers
  • Television, fan, kettle, or other appliances and electronics
  • Dishes and cooking utensils
  • School supplies: pens, paper, folders, etc.
