Happy Fummer! Or Sautum! Or Sull!

It is the beginning of October and we are moving into a strange time of the year. It's Autumn in the morning. Summer in the afternoon (85 degrees today!). And Not as Chilly as You Think It Should Be in the Evening.
Fashion bloggers think it's a great time to dress up to our chins in infinity scarves. My kids are arguing about which obscure Star Wars character they will be for Halloween (Anyone know where to get a Snap Wexley costume?). There is a demolition derby in your sinus cavity.
But...It's also a great time to try out a new commute! There's one month left of Daylight Savings Time, so you can still hop on your bike instead of into your car. Or - on Wednesday, October 2 (tomorrow!) - join other folks around the state in partaking in Maryland's state exercise: walking on Walk Maryland Day!

Bethesda Parking Payment Systems Get a Facelift

If you do need to park in Downtown Bethesda, you might find that you've needlessly emptied your ashtray of change. That's because six Montgomery County in Downtown Bethesda parking facilities are getting new payment systems!
The single-space meters will be removed and replaced with centralized pay stations that operate like the old meters where customers estimate their duration and prepay before leaving their cars.
The new system allows for payment with coins, bills ($1 and $5 only), credit cards and pay by cell. Pay stations do not give change. The pay by cell options allow for impending expiration reminders and the ability to add or stop time remotely. Residents pay for parking and can also add time at any of the conveniently located pay stations. Pay stations prompt users in multiple languages.

The facilities with the new payment systems are:

Pedestrian Master Plan Meeting

The Montgomery County Planning Department will be holding a meeting on Wednesday, October 16 to kick off the development of the county’s first Pedestrian Master Plan, an effort to make walking in Montgomery County safer and more comfortable, convenient and direct. The meeting will take place from 7:00 pm-9:00 pm at the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center located at 4805 Edgemoor Lane in Downtown Bethesda. Click here for more information and to RSVP!

Survey of Downtown Bethesda Residents

Downtown Bethesda residents living in multi-family buildings are being asked to participate in a commuter survey for the very first time!
The Montgomery County Department of Transportation is conducting a survey of residents in the area to find ways to improve transportation services in the Bethesda area and throughout the County. Every member of your household age 18 or older should complete the five-minute survey, provided that you live in one of the properties on the drop-down list. Every adult who completes the survey may choose to be entered into a drawing for a $25 gift card!
Click here to be taken to the survey.
