AACSB extends accreditation of The School of Business and accounting program

AACSB International extended the business and accounting accreditation of The School of Business. AACSB is the longest-serving global accrediting body for business schools and PSU is among the top 1% of business programs worldwide that hold prestigious dual-accreditation in business and accounting.

“AACSB accreditation reflects our commitment to innovation, impact and engagement,” said Cliff Allen, dean of The School of Business. “Our high standards are validated to ensure students receive the quality education they deserve.”

The article focused on Almer's thoughts on how an existing relationship can help improve audit quality, deepening the auditors' understanding of the company and its management.

Sharona Shnayder starts 'Tuesday for Trash' movement, plans for internship with PW&C

Sharona Shnayder, a recent accounting graduate and 2020 commencement speaker, dreams of becoming an auditor and helping businesses improve their sustainability practices.

Just before their graduation, Shnayder and fellow PSU student Wanda McNealy were inspired to spend their Tuesdays together picking up trash around Portland. They documented their movement on social media and asked others to join in. Within a few months, the movement has gained traction – they now host weekly group clean-ups and have been featured on KGW. They encourage others to join in and spread the momentum on social media by tagging #TuesdaysForTrash.

"My goal post-graduation, as cliche as it may sound, is to make the world brighter," Shnayder said. "To be a part of the changes I hope to see in society and be a leader in their implementation. What inspired me to start Tuesday for Trash was wanting to be able to look back on this moment in time and say I did everything I could to preserve this planet we call home."

Up next for Shnayder is a move to Isreal in 2021 where she will pursue an internship with PW&C in Tel Aviv.

“Being involved and joining a community is the catalyst for everything else,” he said “I've actually seen a lot of the opportunities that I've gained from this and a lot of the growth that I've had from it. I've been doing this since 2014 as a really long beneficial experience, and that the future is gonna be all the better for, honestly, I am really looking forward to what's coming next.”

Smartphones can cause distracted investing, says PSU study

A recent study by Assistant Professor Amanda Winn and colleagues found that when it comes to investment decisions, a financial article’s positive or negative headline can have a greater impact on someone reading it on a mobile device than someone reading it on a computer.
The study, “The effect of mobile device use and headline focus on investor judgments,” was published in the Journal of Accounting, Organizations and Society.
