AROUND & ABOUT
Led by New Mexico History teacher Lisa Nordstrum, the 7th grade class went on a field trip to Posi Owingue last month. Students learned about the settlement of the Ancestral Pueblo people of the area, examined pottery shards, and discussed archeological and cultural sensitivity. Additional activities included English teacher Sarah Stark leading a reflective narrative and nature poetry session and Life Science teacher Robin Koval working with students making observations in their nature journals about the New Mexico life zone in the area.
The Tanzania TAP group organized a video conference call with the teachers and students from the Majani ya Chai School, one of several schools in Dr. Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots network that faculty leader Russell Spinney and Prep students are working with to develop an exchange program.
Students across grades 8-10 recently sent illustrated letters to three schools in Tanzania to re-start a pen-pal project, and
the Tanzania TAP held a bake sale to raise money for art supplies so that they can illustrate their letters in return. Through the pen-pal project, the group hopes to develop greater intercultural understanding, and create interdisciplinary projects involving history, literature, and science.

Dear Prep Families and Friends,

We are in the process of reaching out to each of you to ask for your support to our Annual Fund. The Annual Fund is a cornerstone of what makes Santa Fe Prep an exceptional school!

Five Reasons Giving to Our Annual Fund Matters:

1. Your gift connects every student to an enriching education, our school to our greater community, and you to a promising future.

2. Tuition covers only about 80% of the real cost of an education at Santa Fe Prep.

3. Over 120 students benefit from tuition assistance provided by the Annual Fund.

4. Participation counts.

5. Your gift supports our school’s greatest strength—our faculty.

Our community is strong and connected thanks to each of us contributing what we are able. Click here to make your gift to the Annual Fund today

STORIES

GRIFFIN
SHOUT OUTS

Congratulations to Bernice Talachy '19, who won 3rd place in the Intermountain All-Women Hoop Dance Competition last month in Salt Lake City, Utah. This is the only event of its kind in the world for all-female contestants of all ages to hoop dance for the people, for the prize money, and for the title. This was Bernice's first time participating in Salt Lake and her first time placing in a hoop dance competition; she has been competing for four years.
Congrats to Santa Fe Prep's High School Chess A Team who took first place at the Northern Schools Chess League Tournament last month. The team won 16 of 16 games!
The EE Ford Summer Teachers' Colloquium was nominated by Carroll Strategies as part of a national competition through the Public Relations Society of America. The entries are judged on national criteria as to the quality of the outreach campaign.

Over the past two years Santa Fe Prep's EE Ford program has refocused its outreach away from digital means and towards analog efforts. This included sending out an artifacts box to 300 schools, a direct mail campaign, print advertising, radio spots, and Program Director Drew Nucci visiting schools in person to meet with headmasters and faculty. The program was one of only a few in New Mexico to win a gold-level award for outreach.
UPCOMING
EVENTS
The Language and History departments are hosting Guatemalan Mayan Artist and Activist Benedicto Ixtamer for a week-long residency November 7- November 14. Benedicto was the host and local coordinator for Prep's Language/Cultural Immersion Trip in the summer of 2017. He is a self-taught Mayan artist from the highlands of Guatemala. His art has been displayed in Guatemala and the U.S., and his mural style has been compared to that of Diego Rivera. He and his family run the Eco Spanish School in San Juan la Laguana, Lake Atitlán.

Benedicto will be guest speaking in several language and history classes, as well as at an upper school forum. We will hold a "Meet and Greet" for parents on Thursday, November 8, 8:15 am to 9:30 am in the Library

Please RSVP for the parent event to Anna Westen or Dan Murray
Santa Fe Prep's Annual BLOOD DRIVE will be held on Tuesday, November 13, from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm in the Founders' Room. Volunteers age 16 and 17 need a signed permission slip from a parent or guardian. Everyone needs to bring an ID to the donation. Please contact Rennae Ross at 505.795.7522 for more information and to schedule a donation appointment.
Please help us support our student athletes and coaches by joining the Santa Fe Prep Athletic Booster Club for what is widely known as one of the most fun & festive events of the year—BOMBAY NIGHT!
This is the Booster Club’s one-and-only annual fundraising party. We guarantee you’ll have a great time with some absolutely fabulous people while helping us raise the necessary funds to keep our athletic programs vibrant, robust and accessible to everyone.
The party is Friday, December 7, 6:30 pm at The Inn & Spa at Loretto. Tickets are $250/couple and $125/person and are very limited due to the small venue size. Every year we sell out, so don’t delay—click here to purchase!
