| The Varsity Volleyball squad recently played in two local high-powered tournaments. In the face of tough competition, the team continues to hone their game in preparation for the district season. It was awesome to cheer on our girls when they hosted pool play for the SFIS tournament, and we congratulate them on a near-perfect finish to qualify for the gold bracket.
Middle School Volleyball is peaking at the right time as they opened their conference tournament play this week. We wish them luck as they play on Tuesday against Assumption in the semifinal round!
Girls Varsity Soccer continues to roll through the season, playing impressively. The team recently traveled to St. Mike's for an important district match and emerged with a 1-0 victory. Boys JV and Varsity Soccer hosted St. Mike's on the same day and although both teams showed improvement, they were not able to show up on the plus side of the scoreboard. In Middle School Soccer news, the coed team remains undefeated this season—Go Blue Griffins!
The Cross Country teams recently traveled to Pecos for a very challenging meet. Due to the difficulty of the course, their times were average, but their outcomes against district opponents were very promising. The boys finished in an impressive 5th place, with the girls following in 6th.
Middle School Cross Country continues to train for upcoming championships in Albuquerque. At their recent meet at UNM, many runners improved their race time: Wailea Gallegos '24 placed 5th; Henry Lyons '24 placed 6th; Catherine Doscher '23 placed 7th; and Gabe Cordova '23 placed 4th.
The Middle School Golf season got underway with an 8th-grade-only tournament in Albuquerque. Congratulations to our top player, Mac Sims '23, who placed 3rd!
Middle School Tennis has been participating in local practice matches as they prepare for competition in Los Alamos and Albuquerque this month.

| Hi! My name is Lark O’Hora. For my senior TAP this summer, I worked with St. Vincent’s Hospital to bring in donated clothing for the homeless and those in need. I organized space for the few clothes they had—adding plastic bins and labeling everything for a nice, neat, new-looking closet—and then worked on increasing donations from local businesses. As the fall and winter seasons are closing in, the demand for clothing is growing. Therefore, as a final wrap on my project, I will bring a clothing drive to Prep. Starting Monday, October 15, you will find a donation box outside the Admissions Office. Any donations are greatly appreciated! Whether it is a small stack of unwanted sweaters from your closet or a massive mound of the entire family’s giveaways, drop it in the box, and let the giving season begin! The clothing drive ends Friday, October 19. Thank you! - Lark O'Hora '19

OUTDOOR EDUCATION AT PREP
| |
| There was no lightning threat in any direction; swirls of mist climbed the valleys, with pools of sunshine in the distance; we were working our way up the shoulder of Santa Fe Baldy at about 12,000 feet above sea level; and I was struggling. After all of my preaching about the Prep outdoor trips being an opportunity to get to know each other in a different context and intentionally entering into a state of shared vulnerability, here I was feeling very vulnerable. The students in my charge were, of course, idly chatting as I gasped for breath.
We made the summit and marvelled at the 360-degree view and took our pictures. I mentioned to the kids that I was a little embarrassed at having struggled so much on the way up. They responded with an assortment of “It’s all good,” and “No biggie,” and “But you made it, right?”

| Each year through our Annual Fund, we raise the money necessary to bridge the gap between what tuition covers and the cost of running an exceptional non-profit school. Our fund is a critical piece to ensuring Santa Fe Prep continues to provide a level of secondary education unprecedented in northern New Mexico—one that ensures a world of possibilities and a bright future are opened for each child. | History teacher Russell Spinney teamed up with Jenna Ross '08, a Ph.D. candidate in history at USC. Russell and Jenna co-organized a panel on Emotions and Youth in the Age of War for the German Studies Association Conference in Pittsburgh, PA this past weekend. Both presented original work from their respective postdoctoral and dissertation research and received feedback from Andrew Donson, associate professor of history at UMass Amherst and author of The Fatherless Land: War Pedagogy, Nationalism, and Authority in Germany, 1914-1918.

| We are excited to host a tour and lunch for some of Santa Fe’s top realtors on Thursday, October 4 from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm. Our guests will have a chance to tour the campus and hear from Head of School Jim Leonard as well as our Division Heads, Admissions, and College Counseling. Each year, we are fortunate to enroll approximately 80 new students at Prep. Of those, about ten new students have moved to Santa Fe from out of state, and we want to inform Santa Fe realtors of new initiatives at Prep and the many opportunities we provide our students.
If you are a local realtor and are interested in joining us, please reach out to our Admissions team: Mary Little or Mike Multari.
