Winter Online Registration Begins November 4
A diverse selection highlighting the arts, environmental science, recreation, sports, and holiday events are planned for adults and children.
Online program registration for Athens-Clarke County residents will open at 9 AM on Saturday, November 4. Non-residents may register online starting Monday, November 6 at noon. Before registering, individuals who have not already done so must establish a free online account at www.accgov.com/myrec. Payment may be rendered using an American Express, debit card, Discover Card, MasterCard, Visa, or a MasterCard or Visa gift card.
Registration will continue until programs are at full enrollment or they begin.
New scholarship applicants and individuals with expired scholarships must visit a Leisure Services Department facility office to apply for a scholarship or to renew an expired one at least five business days prior to registering for a program. Scholarships may not be applied for online. Information regarding scholarship program changes, including required documentation, is available at www.accgov.com/scholarship.
Individuals who do not have access to a computer or smart phone may register online using the computer labs at Heard Park at 400 McKinley Dr., Lay Park at 297 Hoyt St., or Rocksprings Park at 291 Henderson Ext. during regular hours of operation.

Looking for a place to hang with your friends? Join us at Lay Park for teens night out, where teens will play group games and activities led by Lay Park staff. Games will range from basketball, dodgeball, kickball, ultimate frisbee, trivia, video games, and much more!

"Naturalist's Walk" at Sandy Creek Nature Center
Join naturalists for a Naturalist's Walk as we discover the beauty around us in each season on Saturday, November 4 from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at Sandy Creek Nature Center. Bring binoculars, a camera, and a sense of adventure.
Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is not required.

"Family Saturdays" Art Workshops at Lyndon House Arts Center
The Lyndon House Arts Center announces Family Saturdays: Art Workshops this fall and through the spring of 2024.
Family Saturdays: Art Workshops provide the opportunity to explore the practice of artists who are exhibiting their art in the galleries at the Lyndon House Arts Center. Coinciding with a variety of contemporary art exhibitions, these drop-in workshops include projects that are inspired by the current shows and are designed for children and adults to participate in together. Come join the Lyndon House Arts Center for family-oriented art workshops and stay to explore the artwork that inspired the projects!
Family Saturdays: Art Workshops dates this year include November 18, November 25 and December 16, from 12:00 Noon to 2:00 pm.
Family Saturdays: Art Workshops are free and available for casual drop in, however online registration is recommended.

"Firefly Discovery Ride"
If you have been hearing about the Firefly Trail and how much fun it is to ride a bike on, it’s time to discover what it is all about.
Pump up the tires on those family bikes and join Trails and Open Space staff on Firefly Discovery Ride. Learn about the history of the trail and future plans. See Athens from a new direction, and discover what a wonderful paved trail system you have here in the Classic City.
This free program is for ages 8 and older and is planned for Saturday, November 18 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Online registration is required.

Save the Date!
The annual Athens-Clarke County Downtown Parade of Lights is scheduled for Thursday, December 7 starting at 7:00 p.m.
This year’s theme is “An Art Filled Holiday.” Performing units will be judged when they arrive at the community tree and stage. Entries will compete for such prizes as “Most Original Float,” “Best Use of Theme,” and “Best Use of Lights.” The best overall float will receive the “Mayor’s Award.”
The parade will begin on the corner of Hancock Avenue and Pulaski Street, continue through downtown, culminating with Santa Claus lighting the Christmas Tree in front of City Hall. The parade route map is available at www.accgov.com/parade
Renowned local artist Harold Rittenberry, Jr. will serve as the 2023 Parade Marshal. He is best known in and around Athens for his majestic and whimsical metal sculptures. His work is iconic, as his imagery represents the joy of art, music, love, and nature in our community.
The Athens-Clarke County Downtown Parade of Lights is sponsored by the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government and the Athens Downtown Development Authority.
