Which country icon received an award before recording his debut album? (Hint: see below.) Those are just some of the stories brought to light in This Is Country: A Backstage Pass To The Academy Of Country Music Awards, which was recently released as the ACM prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary next year. ACM Awards: Did You Know?

  • Growing Pains star Alan Thicke once wrote for the show.
  • Following the 1992 awards, as Garth Brooks left L.A. he could see the fires from the L.A. riots (which happened the same night as the show). Inspired, he called co-writer Stephanie Davis and they wrote "We Shall Be Free."
  • Merle Haggard won Male Star of the Year at the 1964 Southern California Country Music Awards (which later became the ACM Awards) – one year before he recorded his debut album.

» Church Confession: When Eric Church revealed he and wife Katherine were expecting their second child, he did it subtly – so under the radar, in fact, that not many people noticed. CMT's Samantha Stephens did, though. At Church's Louisville, KY concert last weekend (9/25) Stephens heard him change the lyrics of "Sinners Like Me" from "give my dad a grandson" to "give my dad another grandson." Church's publicist confirms the singer's wife is pregnant again and expecting another boy. Congrats to Eric, Katherine and big brother Boone, who turns three Oct. 3!

» Can Harley Wait Nashville was decked out in leather on Sunday as Dierks Bentley held his ninth annual Miles and Music for Kids motorcycle ride and concert to benefit the Monroe Carell, Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. To kick off the afternoon, Bentley and riders traveled from Harley Davidson of Columbia, TN to Riverfront Park in downtown Nashville. There, he joined friends Chris Young, Kip Moore, Randy Houser and Jon Pardi for a show which was emceed by GAC's Storme Warren. Charles Esten from TV show Nashville also stopped by to give his support. This year's ride was sold out and raised a record amount of money for the children's hospital. "I just want this to be as big as it can possibly be without losing the down-home Tennessee vibe," said Bentley. The event raised $335,479, bringing the nine-year total to around $2.6 million. "You meet these kids and their families and all you can do is help them financially," said Bentley, "So now I have this thing I'm known for and it's great. It's kind of like my own personal CMA Fest."

» Pilot's License: Lady Antebellum are ready for their new album 747 to take flight Sept. 30 – this time with a new pilot, producer Nathan Chapman. "We took a breath last year, had a chance to reset, came back, and said, 'Let's try a new producer and let's try coming at this from a different angle and see where it leads,' said Lady A's Dave Haywood. The group and Chapman really clicked and kept recording together after a writing spree that went through the spring of this year, recalled Haywood. "It's just a year and a half after the deluxe release of Golden," he added. "For us, I don't think any kind of timing matters. I think fans are always ready for new stuff."

» Band of Others: Seven-time hosts Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood will be busy bees the night of the The 48th Annual CMA Awards, airing Nov. 5 on ABC-TV. Not only will they display their comedic chops via topical skits and a song parody or two, they'll also perform. Additional artists who've been added to the performance lineup are bands Lady Antebellum, Little Big Town and The Band Perry. They join previously-revealed performers Luke Bryan, Miranda Lambert, Blake Shelton and Keith Urban. Keep up with the ever-expanding lineup here.

» Card Trick: We're not sure how much of a poker player Hunter Hayes is, but he's just added two "Wild Card" dates to his Tattoo (Your Name) Tour – Oct. 28 in NYC and Nov. 29 in Dallas, TX. Those dates are named after a song on his album Storyline. The NYC tour kickoff will also be the unveiling of customized LED wristbands by Glow Motion Technologies. Every ticket holder will get one and it allows fans to be an integral part of the live show. According to Hayes' reps, the wristbands feature technology that has never been taken on a full tour before. We don't know exactly what that means but it sounds pretty cool. More info on the tour here.

» Accident Drone: In celebration of the end of the first leg of Dierks Bentley's Riser Tour, Bentley gifted drone cameras to tourmates Chris Young, Jon Pardi and Chase Rice. The iPad-controlled drones can fly over crowds and take videos and pictures during shows. "Got a badass drone for our last night of tour thanks to @DierksBentley. Thanks bro, been the best summer of my life," said Rice via Twitter. "I'm confident in your flying skills," replied Bentley. "@ChrisYoungMusic too. @JonPardi?!..i give his 3 days."
