Optimistic Sales Extended from June to July
The fifth week of June broke the positive streak in sales, however, the results for the month remained up. Independent grocers reported that their same-store sales were down -1.04 percent the last week of the month compared to the same period in 2018. The customer count was also down 0.23 percent.
Nevertheless, June ended with a 0.20 percent increase in sales compared to the same month in 2018. The customer count showed similar numbers to last year, down 1.99 percent.
July starts very optimistically with same-store sales up 0.93 percent compared to the first week of the month last year. The sales increase is mainly due to the Fourth of July, which is a popular food holiday, expected to create a local economic spark.
