What If We Put the Public in Initial Public Offering?

2019 is set to be a banner year for IPOs with a record number of companies going public. In today's Chronicle, Tipping Point President Sam Cobbs argues that these IPOs present a rare opportunity to chart a new path for our region. Using child care as an example, Sam asserts that people with newly found wealth could enable every kid in San Francisco who needs it to receive quality child care. And to do this, it would only take a small sliver of their windfall. Similar cases could be made across all of Tipping Point's focus areas—housing, early childhood, education, and employment. Read Sam’s take on this moment and share with your networks.

Taking Count of Poverty in the Bay Area [VIDEO]

Today, 31% of people in the Bay Area have experienced an economic hardship such as eviction or inability to pay their medical bills. These experiences felt by many residents in our region are the focus of a year-long study called Taking Count, a partnership between Tipping Point Community and UC Berkeley. Watch this short video about the study and get a peek of what’s to come from Taking Count.

A Safe Space

The nation’s first transitional housing shelter for transgender youth opens in San Francisco, filling an urgent need. Tipping Point grantee Larkin Street Youth Services is overseeing the house, which operates with on-site case managers, counselors, advisers from the SF LGBT Center, and many other resources around the city.
