Message from the DirectorIn August, Sydney Nano continued to work effectively on various projects. In summary: I am pleased to announce the launch of our newest network, the 'Smart Sustainable Building' network. I look forward to seeing this progress in areas of sustainability and the built environment. A warm welcome to some of our new International Ambassadors, supporting our academic partnership strategy. Applications remain open for some regions. The Terasaki Institute's Prof. Khademhosseini's Distinguished Lecture saw a record-high attendance rate. We farewelled Prof. Jim Rabeau and wish him well in his leadership role with CSIRO. Congratulations to Prof. Anita Ho-Baillie who was awarded an ARC Future Fellowship and Prof. Hala Zreiqat on an ARC Linkage Grant. The Q-Ctrl team have been included in The Australian's 'Top 100 Innovators' - congratulations to Prof. Michael Biercuk & team. Finally, R U OK? Day is coming up on 9 Sept, a timely reminder to check in with your peers.

New Network: Smart Sustainable Building
We are thrilled to launch the Smart Sustainable Building Network (SSBN), tackling sustainability in the built environment. Co-Chaired by Prof. Ben Eggleton and Prof. Kim Rasmussen (Engineering), SSB will involve establishing ambitious targets supported by dedicated, diverse research teams. Research themes include sustainability, efficiency, water consumption, building performance and more. The work will be leveraging cutting-edge scientific advances, particularly those in nanoscale materials and nanotechnology. More to come!

Future Leaders' Program to commence in Feb, 2022
To enable in-person and an enhanced learning experience, the inaugural Sydney Nano Future Leaders' Program will be postponed, now commencing in Feb 2022. The program aims to boost the careers of HDR Students and ECRs, facilitating both connection and learning. Invitations to join the 'Class of 22' coming soon.

Meet: Rhiagh Cleary, Senior Research Officer
Multidisciplinary experiences in both research and industry! Rhiagh began her career in nano-pharma research, connected to NAMDIATREAM, Europe’s largest award-winning research project, using skills from her first-class honours in Nanotechnology. As a Regulatory Compliance Manager for a global manufacturing company in environmental sustainability, Rhiagh worked with international regulatory bodies and industry, re-writing the manufacturing standards. Rhiagh holds a MSc in Psychology, has conducted clinical assessments & led preteomics research, exemplifying her skills in analytics, ethics, partnerships & more. Rhiagh loves wildlife spotting, particularly for amphibians. For Sydney Nano, Rhiagh predominantly supports the NanoHealth network as Senior Research Officer.

NanoFluidics
A/Prof. Stefano Palomba and Dr Daniele Vigolo will co-lead NanoFluidics, the new Frontier to identify critical applications of Nanofluidics by conducting academic and industrial mapping in the areas of NanoHealth and sensing. This is a correction to our past edition.

ARC Future Fellowship – Anita Ho-Baillie
Congratulations to Prof. Anita Ho-Baillie, who is one of nine University scholars to receive an ARC Future Fellowship! This will enable research to develop perovskite solar cells – a cost-effective, sustainable source of energy for space technology.

ARC Linkage Grant
Congratulations to Prof. Hala Zreiqat, leading one of three Sydney Uni projects awarded an ARC Linkage Grant! The team will research computational modelling, biomaterials & more using 3D nano printing, in partnership with Allegra Orthopaedics.
