In this edition of the Asia Pacific newsletter, I'm proud to advise in March the region held its first South-East Asia ATMs conference, in conjuction with leading retail banking research firm RBR. With over 300 attendees, this event recieved an overwhelming positive response from the delegates and exhibitors alike.

The key message that came out of this event was that cash is still king in Indonesia. Industry experts from the region expect the greater South East Asian ATM market to grow by at least 40% over the next four years. ATMIA Asia Pacific intends to expand its membership base in Indonesia and welcomes any potential leads for this region. Feel free to forward any details to sandra.smith@atmia.com
Cameron Ross from Indue also attended the South-East Asian event and has written a report on: How financial institution in Asia are taking advantage of the region's techology trends. To read more click here.
In April, ATMIA Asia Pacific submitted a Position Paper to the Reserve Bank of Australia, defining the Association's position in regards to the issue of external signage for direct charging fees,  Below is an excerpt from the paper:
"ATMIA does not support external disclosure of fees at ATMs in Australia, given that on-screen notification is both the international norm and suffices for full fee disclosure to customers". To read more click here.
Last month the AP region held an Government Relations Committee (GRC)  teleconference chaired by respected industry vetran Gavin Napier. The next step for ATMIA is to provide our members with information on the following::
  • A response from the RBA on ATMIAs Industry Position Paper
  • A progress report from the RBA and ATM manufactures (members) in relation to the Next Generation Banknotes in Australia.
To refer to the minutes from GRC teleconference click here.
So far this year, the Asia Pacific region has welcomed 8 new members- please refer to the list below. This is a fantastic start to the year and will strive to continue to increase our membership numbers  throughout the year.

Finally, if any members request a story about their company to appear in our Asia Pacific Newsletter, please send the material to the me at sandra.smith@atmia.com ( 250 words plus a photograph or logo is an ideal package.) This is a grea way for our member companies to get their key messages and brand out to the industry

I look forward to hearing from you.
Warm Regards

       - Gavin Napier, ATM Guru
  • “A standarised training for ATM Operators was a missing element for the industry. I am proud that ATMIA has lead the industry in this initiative with an easy to use, on-line format. The training accurately covers the day to day duties for this position and is a must for all in this position to take.”
    - George Athanasakis, Director, Australian Technology Management P/L

The ATM Industry Association has announced that it has created a new level of membership specifically for financial institutions.  Although FIs have always been an important segment of the membership, this new level combines selected benefits into a package that ATMIA expects to be of particular interest to banks and credit unions of all sizes.
“ATMIA supports the professionalism of ATM deployers primarily because they take care of the customer touchpoint. The association is proud to announce a customized membership package for Financial Institutions to cater to their unique needs as ATM deployers in a demanding marketplace. Banks and credit unions are likely to find the package of benefits we’re offering both useful and educational,” says ATMIA CEO, Mike Lee.
One of the objectives of the new level is to allow for more individual members, which means that numerous FI departments can now become fully engaged in ATMIA activities and resources.  Committee groups and Best Practices address ATM-related issues and processes for security, risk management, business development, and compliance, as well as operations.  Financial Institution Members may also designate one representative to participate in their Regional Advisory Board.
“With a growing group of over 90 banks and other organisations amongst our existing members already qualifying for this new category, the ATMIA can rightly claim to represent the whole ATM industry, including Financial Institutions", says Ron Delnevo, ATMIA Europe Executive Director.
Sharon Lane, Global Director, Finance and Member Services noted that “New benefits are being introduced for the Financial Institution membership level that will be attractive to banks and credit unions globally; including one free course from the ATMIA Academy certified on-line education program.  ATMIA members also gain from the support and knowledge of other members through their membership.”
More information about Financial Institution Membership is available on ATMIA’s website, as well as from the Executive Director of each ATMIA Region.

As our ATM world changes due to reasons such as IT,  hardware, regulatory, fraud, operator changes, etc. ATMIA is continually ramping up or winding down committees as necessary to keep its members well informed of impending changes. Committees are made up of a cross section of  members and subject matter experts. The work effort on behalf of committee members is minimal but of high caliber. Please take a look at the existing working committees to see if you are interested in becoming involved to guide change.  .https://www.atmia.com/committees/
Next Generation ATM Architecture Committee
Are you interested in joining ATMIA’s new Next Generation ATM Architecture Committee?
