A message from the City Manager
|
Improving police services and public safety continues to be a priority for both the City and our community. As Vancouver continues to grow, we're looking ahead to what it will take to meet the future demand for public safety services. To that end, in early January we began inviting community members to apply for a position on our new Police Community Advisory Committee. This committee will play a crucial role in advising my office on issues related to police services in Vancouver.
Thank you to the more than 100 community members who took the time to apply. I'm reviewing the applications and plan to appoint the committee members this month.

Complete streets aim to bring your loved ones home safely
|
Complete Streets are streets that make travel safe and comfortable for everyone – regardless of age, ability or how you choose to travel. This year, we'll be embarking on several new complete street planning efforts, including Upper Main Street, St. John/St. James Streets and 29th/33rd Streets. Learn more.
Take our Upper Main Street Survey
We're exploring ways to improve safety and mobility for all people using Main Street from Fourth Plain Boulevard to the northern city limits (just south of NE 63rd Street / Minnehaha Street.)
. What’s your experience like traveling on Upper Main Street?

Love thy neighbor, slow your roll
|
Got traffic tyrants wreaking havoc on your neighborhood street? The 2024 Traffic Calming Program may be able to help. This competitive program offers community members an opportunity to nominate and champion projects for new traffic calming elements on neighborhood streets.
This program is just one of many resources available to help slow neighborhood traffic.

Home is where the heart is
|
We have up to $9.5 million in Affordable Housing Funds available this year for developers, nonprofits and other housing providers whose projects provide housing for very low-income households in Vancouver. We’re looking for creative projects that create the permanently affordable housing solutions our community urgently needs.
Thanks to Vancouver voters’ passage of Proposition 3 in 2023, this fund will support even more people through rent assistance, homelessness prevention/shelter services and stable, affordable homes over the next decade.

Your support of Fire, Emergency Service warms our hearts
|
Thanks to Vancouver voters' passage of Proposition 2 in 2022, Vancouver Fire is improving its emergency response capabilities and keeping you better protected. Over the past year, our daily roster has increased from 40 to 53 firefighters on duty on every 24-hour shift. The new firefighters staff an additional fire engine, a ladder truck, and three paramedic squad units. On Jan. 10, Squad 1 and our third ladder truck officially went into service in east Vancouver. Watch the video to check out our "engine push in" tradition.
