Leading M.D.’s address lung cancer & screening on ‘Top Docs’
The latest edition of the Medical Association of Georgia’s (MAG) ‘Top Docs’ show addresses lung cancer and why it’s crucial for applicable patients to get screened for lung cancer – and it features William “Bill” Mayfield, M.D., the chief surgical officer for the WellStar Health System and the chair of the Georgia Lung Cancer Roundtable (GLCRT), and Aaron Cann, M.D., Ph.D., the chief radiologist for lung cancer screening at Quantum Radiology and the chair of GLCRT’s Policy Committee.

In addition to the aforementioned roles, Dr. Mayfield serves as the chair of the Service Line Executive Committee at WellStar; he is a board-certified general thoracic surgeon with WellStar Thoracic Surgery Associates; he founded and directs WellStar’s Lung Cancer Screening Program; he co-founded and directs WellStar’s Multi-Disciplinary Thoracic Oncology Clinics (STAT Clinics); and he serves as a clinical professor of surgery at the Medical College of Georgia (MCG). Dr. Mayfield has a medical degree from MCG, and he is a member of MAG and several medical specialty societies. Dr. Cann is the section chief for thoracic imaging at Quantum – where he is a board-certified diagnostic radiologist. Prior to joining Quantum, Dr. Cann was an assistant professor at Emory University. He has an M.D. and a Ph.D. from the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, and he did a fellowship at Columbia Presbyterian hospital, which are both in New York City. Dr. Cann is a member of MAG and several medical specialty societies, and he recently finished a term as a Georgia delegate for the American College of Radiology.
