Into the Light
In July 2020, Chapman Professor of English Laura M. Stevens set out to uncover the history of the students who attended the institution from which TU traces its roots. To that effect, she launched the Presbyterian School for Indian Girls (PSIG) Project, which seeks to learn who these students were, what their experiences were like at the school, and how their lives unfolded. Recently, the PSIG Project team published biographies of three young women who attended PSIG and two who attended affiliated institutions. The team hopes to write short biographies of every PSIG student identified and honor their memories.

Adventures in Interning
Interning abroad offers a multitude of benefits, and two Collins College of Business students experienced those benefits firsthand when they took the leap to intern outside the country. Sophia Sirvia, an international business and language major, and Vidhari Rios Uribe, a business management major, each committed two months to lucrative internship opportunities in Argentina and Panama, respectively. Their responsibilities included extensive fieldwork, identifying target areas for improvement and software implementation, in addition to adapting to cultural and communication barriers.

Microbial Marvels
TU’s Department of Biological Science was recently accepted into the international SEA-PHAGES (Science Education Alliance: Phage Hunters Advancing Genomics and Evolutionary Science) program. Membership enables TU to remodel two core labs to better study Earth’s most abundant biological agent. “There are more bacteriophages than all other viruses and cellular organisms combined,” explained Mark Buchheim, chair of biological science. “To conduct their investigations, TU students will deploy our high-resolution transmission electron microscope, one of the key technologies for characterizing bacteriophages.”
