Dear Students:
You’ve shown tremendous care for your fellow students and colleagues on campus, and we are pleased to share that the Valpo students are 93% vaccinated and employees are over 95% vaccinated. We have achieved what few other institutions have in the fight against COVID-19, and as a result, our Valpo campus is one of the safest places in our entire region and state.
In light of the Delta variant situation, we asked all in the Valpo community to resume mask wearing indoors through Sept. 6 to help protect campus as many returned to their residence halls, classrooms, and offices. Thanks to your efforts, we are now able to relax some requirements for students, faculty, and staff who are fully vaccinated.
While we’re very pleased with our high percentage of vaccinations, the Delta variant remains an issue. We must remain vigilant and continue to focus on the overall safety of our campus community. Therefore, beginning Sept. 7th and going through Sept. 20th, masks will continue to be required in all classrooms and laboratories. However, indoor common areas on campus and inside residence halls will now be mask optional for fully vaccinated individuals.
After Sept. 20, depending on campus and local data, faculty members may be able to set their own guidelines for mask wearing in their classrooms and laboratories.
As a reminder, individuals who are unvaccinated or who are midway through the vaccination process, will be required to wear a face covering in all campus buildings, public areas, and at outdoor events at all times. Finally, due to the lower vaccination rates in our county and state, we are encouraging everyone to wear a mask when out in the community.
