Calipari receives grant to launch AUD Research and Education Center
Erin Calipari (Pharmacology) launched the AUD Research and Education Center with a five-year, $8.9 million P60 grant from the National Institutes of Health. The effort bolsters Vanderbilt's leadership in neuroscience, addiction research, and innovative approaches to the study of alcohol use disorder.

Osheroff leads discovery efforts for first new antibacterial class in decades
The data from this research—a project between Neil Osheroff (Biochemistry) and GlaxoSmithKline—are being submitted to the FDA as the mechanism-of-action portion of the application for the use of gepotidacin to treat urinary tract infections. Gepotidacin is poised to become the first new class of antibacterials to be approved for use in humans in decades.

Teams to create one-stop resource for human pancreatic data to foster diabetes research
Jean-Philippe Cartailler (Vanderbilt Creative Data Solutions), Marcela Brissova (Medicine), and Diane Saunders (Medicine), received $12.5 million in two five-year awards from the NIH to create the the world’s first, integrated knowledge base of human-derived tissue- and cellular-level pancreatic information to support collaborative and reproducible research.

Kunnath, Marshall, Wen receive Lacy-Fischer Interdisciplinary Research Grants
Graduate students Ansley Kunnath (Neuroscience), Cody Marshall (Chemical and Physical Biology), and Xuan Wen (Neuroscience) were awarded Lacy-Fischer Interdisciplinary Research Grants for cochlear implant and brain imaging research projects, respectively.

Davies awarded Scaling Success grant
Sean Davies (Pharmacology) has been awarded a Scaling Success grant to develop small molecules with promise of protecting against cardiometabolic disease. The grant is from Research Development and Support in the Office of the Vice Provost for Research and Innovation.

Vanderbilt to establish a college dedicated to computing, AI, and data science
The College of Connected Computing will be led by a new dean who will report to Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs C. Cybele Raver and to School of Engineering Dean Krishnendu “Krish” Roy. Erin Calipari (Pharmacology) and Ken Lau (Cell and Developmental Biology) were named to the Connected Computing Task Force and Hassane Mchaourab (Molecular Physiology and Biophysics) was named to the CCTF computing infrastructure committee.
