Career-Maker
As director of career services, Alana Hentges supports students throughout their career development process, from “I have no idea what I want to do with my life” to “I have two job offers—how do I know which one is best for me?” and everything in between. Throughout the pandemic, Hentges and her team reimagined their work in remote and hybrid environments, offering virtual career advising and dozens of ASK a Logger career Q&As with Puget Sound alumni. At home, she is a self-described compulsive baker and candy-maker, spreading smiles to family members, friends, and colleagues with homemade caramels.

HACKS & CHOPS “The work I do as a performer directly informs my teaching, and the work I do one-on-one with my students, or as a group, directly informs my performing,” says Professor of Music Maria Sampen, violin, in an interview by Anjuli Dodhia of Northwest Public Broadcasting for a segment that aired on NPR.

ON PARADE Charles Hebard Jones rides in the front seat of an automobile in Tacoma’s Fourth of July parade in 1911. Jones was a principal in the St. Paul and Tacoma Lumber Company. His widow, Franke Tobey Jones, provided the funds to build C.H. Jones Hall—the first building on Puget Sound's permanent campus in North Tacoma—in his memory.
