Patriots Day: A Moment to Remember Duke Alumni Killed on 9/11

In memory of the six Duke alumni who perished in the attacks on New York and Washington, Duke planted a grove of six trees in Keohane Quadrangle. As occurs on each anniversary of the attack, members of the Duke community--Ranjan Jindal, vice president of Keohane Quad, Tara Singh, president of Keohane Quad, and Austin Brown, communications coordinator for Keohane Quad--lay a wreath at Duke’s 9/11 Memorial plaque to remember the 6 Duke alumni we lost.

Sanford’s POLIS: Center for Politics kicked off its multipart Bridging the Divide series this week with a fireside chat between Provost Alec Gallimore and former Republican U.S. Senator Richard Burr. Burr recently joined Duke University as a Polis Distinguished Fellow. Burr touched on several topics, including the value of listening and building trust, polarization and the loss of civility and social responsibility.

Celebrating Centennial Trailblazer Shaundra Daily

Continuing to celebrate #Duke100, this week we recognize Cue Family Professor of the Practice of Electrical & Computer Engineering and Computer Science Shaundra Daily. Daily also serves as Education and Workforce Director for the Athena AI Institute. Her research involves designing, implementing and evaluating technologies, programs and curricula to support inclusive excellence in STEM fields. Daily has received state and national recognition for her work in STEM, including by Governor Roy Cooper and by the National Science Foundation (NSF). The NSF awarded her and her colleague Nicki Washington $10 million to create the alliance for identity-inclusive computing education.
