On the morning of August 21, NYU Shanghai welcomed more than 400 Chinese and international students from the Class of 2027 to the school's 11th University Welcome, the first to be held at its newly opened New Bund Campus. While students arrived on campus on August 20 for Move-In Day, the ceremony marked the first time the students joined together as an entire class.

This fall, NYU Shanghai welcomes 33 new faculty members from 12 countries. Spanning 19 disciplines -from Computer Science to Physics to Sociology, these new faculty members will expand and enrich NYU Shanghai's academic environment.

After dropping their bags off at their new residence hall rooms, NYU Shanghai's violet-clad Class of 2027 jumped headfirst into Orientation Week – their schedules jam-packed with activities designed to familiarize them with the spaces, resources, protocol, and people of their new home campus, while making meaningful connections with each other.

Professor William Glover's team developed a computational technique to find molecule configurations that stabilize charge-separated states. With this approach, they were able to explore how changes in DNA's molecular configurations can affect the rate at which an electron transfers between the nucleobases. Their paper was featured on the cover of the Journal of Chemical Physics in May.

Over 50 scholars and students from across the globe gathered at NYU Shanghai for the Symposium on Urban Social Survey and Quantitative Social Science in Celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the Chinese General Social Survey (CGSS). The symposium consisted of four parallel forums featuring keynote speeches by 28 sociologists from nearly 20 universities.

NYU Shanghai alum Vittoria Vitucci '20, a previous Fulbright grantee, is the first NYU Shanghai graduate to be awarded the Global Korea Scholarship. Fully funded by the Korean government, the Global Korea Scholarship is one of the most prestigious awards offering international students the opportunity to study in undergraduate or graduate programs in South Korea.

• This fall, 23 NYU Shanghai students were selected from among 44,000 applicants for Millennium Fellowships, a semester-long leadership development program run by the United Nations Academic Impact and the Millennium Campus Network. They are among 4,000 students selected to be Millennium Fellows from 260 campuses in more than 119 nations. • Seventeen student workers working in eight departments have been honored as NYU Shanghai Outstanding Student Workers of 2023 by Center for Career Development (CCD), to acknowledge them for their genuine commitment to serving the NYU Shanghai community. • On the evening of August 25, the spotlights of the grand auditorium shone on the members of the Class of 2027 and the many emerging talents among them. Owen Roubeni '27 (US), won Most Popular Performance for his heartfelt piano and vocal performance of John Lennon’s “Imagine.” Eric Liang '27 (China) won Most Creative Performance for performing a voiceover of two roles from a scene from The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. Esther Shi '27 (China) won Best Talent after captivating the audience with a Chinese martial art performance of "Soul of the Sword," and Emma Song '27 (US) was awarded Best Performance for her dance performance of the song "You & Me."
