| Partnering to support your student’s success
SEPTEMBER 2024
|
|
|
Dear Denison Families,
Our Family Guide is both a source of campus news (there are some really exciting things happening here) and a resource to support your student throughout their journey at Denison. We aim to empower your student to take control and build their own unique experience, and we recognize that your partnership is vital in making this happen.
It’s been wonderful to see our returning students back on campus! [LINK TO FLICKR ONCE POSTED!] Their energy and enthusiasm have set a great tone for the year ahead. We are looking forward to reconnecting with families in September during Family Weekend (Sept. 27-29). We hope to see you there!
Warmly,
Julie Tucker ’09
Director of Family Engagement

Launching for Professional Success |
One of the many strengths of a Denison education is the myriad opportunities for students to gain skills, experiences, and networks that help them to launch successfully after graduation. From our Red Frame Lab to the Lisska Center, to career-focused resources from the Knowlton Center and Denison Edge, this fall is filled with many of those opportunities, and we share them with you in hopes that you’ll have a conversation with your student about how they might engage in one or more of these opportunities this month.
Please also encourage your student to join a Career Community. As your student discovers more about their career interests, they can join a Career Community where they will have access to industry-specific resources, opportunities, and connections for all students, regardless of academic focus.

Career Jumpstart: Gear Up for Early Applications! (Sept. 10)
Did you know that some internships and full-time jobs start recruiting one year in advance? During this program, students will learn about competitive internship and full time job opportunities that start recruiting in the summer and early fall for summer 2026 opportunities.

Big Red Career Expo (Sept. 17)
Students have the opportunity to kickstart their career journey or simply explore future opportunities at the Denison University Career Expo on Sept. 17 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

|
Journey Program (Oct. 17-18)
We encourage every student to take advantage of the Knowlton Center’s Journey Program, which prompts students to imagine the type of life and career they want to lead post-graduation. Encourage your student to sign up for the next Journey opportunity.

Denison Edge
Denison Edge offers opportunities to gain workforce-ready business skills and micro-credentials. Programs are FREE for students and transportation is provided when the program is taught off campus. Check out the fall offerings!

Ask a Denisonian
Tapping into the power of Denison's network of 30,000+ alumni, students can ask a question, which is then answered by an alum with experience and background relevant to their ask. This often leads to in-person, Zoom, or phone conversations.

September Conversation Starter |
Each month we feature a conversation starter or question to pose to your student, aligned with what's most relevant at this point in the academic year:
How does your student want to get involved this year?
Take on a leadership role in their organization or join a new one?
Attend events, special lectures, or performances?
Get a campus job? Participate in student government?
The opportunities are plentiful!
