Campus Update for the First Week in January
Happy New Year! As we prepare to embark on a new semester, here are some important notes and reminders:
Intersession Week of Jan. 3
All Intersession classes will be held remotely. To mitigate against the spread of COVID-19 in the immediate wake of the holidays, there will be limited access to LLS facilities:
- William M. Rains Library: Doors will be open for drop-off and pick-up of books and materials from Monday, Jan. 3 through Friday, Jan. 7 from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Please contact the Circulation Desk (circdesk@lls.edu) to confirm availability of items before pick-up. Reference services are available via email (reference@lls.edu).
- LLS COVID Testing Center: Open Monday, Jan. 3 through Thursday, Jan. 6 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
- Bookstore: Open Monday, Jan. 3 through Thursday, Jan. 6 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. for pick-ups
- Sonia’s Café: Closed
- Student Wellness Resources: Many services available virtually the week of Jan. 3
- LLS Shuttle: Service resumes on Monday, Jan. 3.
Campus offices will be accessible for faculty and staff. Staff should contact supervisors regarding work schedules for the week. As was announced on Dec. 21, members of the campus community must have a negative COVID test prior to returning to campus. Staff and faculty are encouraged to be tested at the LLS COVID Testing Center on the first day of their return to campus by making a reservation at www.lls.edu/covidtesting for timeslots between the hours of 11 a.m.-2 p.m. However, the testing center can be available from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Individuals needing testing can stop by the Info Center prior to the reservation times for immediate testing. You are also advised to test on your own by taking PCR tests up to two days prior to your return or rapid antigen tests one day prior to your return. L.A. County testing centers can be found on the L.A. County website. In most cases, testing and booster shots should be covered by LMU’s medical insurance plans; display your insurance card when necessary. Do not come to campus to if you are experiencing symptoms or have had exposure to COVID.
Spring 2022 Semester
The Spring 2022 semester will begin as scheduled on Monday, Jan. 10. As was previously announced, academic instruction will be conducted virtually for the first two weeks. In-person instruction is scheduled to resume the week of Jan. 24. As the announcement also noted, the university will require eligible community members to provide proof that they have received a COVID-19 booster within one month of eligibility. Faculty, staff and students must get tested and obtain a negative result before reentering campus for the spring semester.
We will share more details about the spring semester next week, including updates on how to document compliance with the booster and testing requirements. Please note that we will continue to reassess and modify our plans as circumstances develop and in alignment with guidance from public health authorities.
Thanks very much, and we look forward to seeing you again soon!
