Summer is a busy time when we commemorate graduations. When I was growing up, I thought of graduation as an ending—it was, after all, the end of high school. As I got older, I began to see graduation also as a beginning. We call it commencement for a reason. In Spanish, comenzar means to begin, start or launch.
As the Foundation begins a new fiscal year, we celebrate one very strong ending. Your dollars fulfilled $5 million in funding requests across CentraCare last fiscal year. Here are just a few examples:
|
-
The Central Minnesota Child Advocacy Center received more than $200,000 to provide protection, advocacy, justice and healing for children or vulnerable adults who’ve experienced physical, sexual or emotional abuse.
- $400,000 were distributed to St. Cloud Hospital's Behavioral Health Emergency Psychiatric Assessment, Treatment and Healing Unit (EmPATH) to care for those experiencing mental health issues in a quiet, comforting setting.
- More than $10,000 funded Dignity Closet, providing clothing for vulnerable community members upon discharge from the hospital or emergency room.
|
We mark another important ending with a thank-you to the Foundation's departing board members. A special shout-out goes to Tom St. Hilaire, Mike Stoebe and Joe Francis, who served two consecutive, three-year terms and were on the finance committee. Tom St. Hilaire also served as vice chair. We are grateful for the insight each provided over the last six years.
We also recognize the start of new board member terms and are grateful to Kelly O'Farrell, who returns as board chair, and to Mark Nettesheim, who becomes the new vice chair. We appreciate your service that really makes a difference!
Finally, I wish all of our donors and supporters good endings and beginnings during this busy time of year!

Inspiration, Connection and Learning |
On Monday, June 16, twenty-four Legacy Society members—individuals who have made planned gifts to CentraCare Foundation—met for a special afternoon of connection, learning and inspiration at the new University of Minnesota CentraCare Regional Campus St. Cloud.
Members enjoyed lunch, heard presentations and enjoyed had a tour of the new medical school facility.
Speakers included Foundation Vice President Holly Gulden, Regional Campus Dean Chris Fallert, MD, and CentraCare President and CEO Ken Holmen, MD, who shared insights into the future of health care, medical education and innovation in our region.
The event was just one of several opportunities for our community to see how CentraCare is making rural life healthier by educating future physicians and engaging in vital research.
