Cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin continue to make headlines, presenting unexpected challenges and opportunities for financial institutions, central banks, and regulators in the U.S. and abroad. On July 26th, Financial Women of San Francisco hosted a sold-out industry leadership event (and private tour) at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. Held in the Janet Yellen Conference room, the event featured speaker Kendra Hartnett, senior risk specialist at the Federal Reserve Bank, who gave insights into bitcoin, blockchain, and cryptocurrency. The definition of family is changing. On July 18, a group of about 25 women (and a few men!) came together to watch the thought-provoking documentary The Big Flip at the Shattuck Theatre in Berkeley. The movie resonated with many of the event attendees. In fact, half of the attendees were in family relationships where the father was playing a larger role in caring for the children than the mother who was the primary income generator. Read more >

Mentoring Program Changes Coming Your Way
| |
FWSF is proud of its mentoring program for scholarship recipients and now wants to develop a mentoring program for members. Paige Venable, FWSF immediate past-president, is spearheading the effort, and asks that members fill out our survey. There are a lot of different ways to structure a mentoring program. For example, a traditional “one-on-one” relationship where a mentor, typically a successful and seasoned professional, works with a mentee (or protégé), usually less experienced, to and advance the mentee’s career and networks. Or perhaps it would be two peers who are at a similar professional experience level, but one has expertise in a subject area that mentee/mentor does not possess. Or… group mentoring (aka: mentoring circles), flash mentoring, speed mentoring, reverse mentoring. We are just getting started assessing interest and we need your input! Fill in the survey now and let us have your thoughts.

On October 4, the FWSF Endowment team has organized an exciting event at the Salesforce tower. It’s an auction event with music (you won’t want to miss the Jelly Roll Jazz band featuring Denise Blondeau), and they are actively soliciting donations for the auction. Any art, photographs, tickets (think symphony, theater, museum), cases or bottles of wine, weekend getaways welcome! All proceeds benefit the FWSF Endowment fund. Financial Woman of the Year Event Around the Corner
| |
Planning is in full swing for this year’s event. Last year we had a sellout crowd to honor Robin Washington, EVP/CFO of Gilead Sciences. We expect another sellout event with many exciting new guests and sponsors joining us to honor Heidi Roizen, a partner at DFJ, who is an outstanding leader in the local, national and international financial and educational communities. Although corporate tables are filling up, there are still seats available for individual ticket holders. Come celebrate at one of FWSF’s keystone events! Register Now >
