NASA Texas Aerospace Scholars
|
PCS juniors Kaeden Beno, Wesley Bruce, Nate Lowry, and Turner Young were selected to participate in the NASA Texas Aerospace Scholars program this year. TAS is a year-long commitment for Texas high school juniors beginning with a five-month online learning experience related to space exploration, Earth science, technology, and aeronautics. Students gain valuable skills in coding, computer-aided design (CAD), and engineering. All four of our Paladins were among the highest achieving students and were invited to a five-day virtual summer experience (Moonshot) mentored by NASA scientists and engineers. The top performing teams from Moonshot will be invited to an all expense paid residential experience to NASA’s Johnson Space Center.
Also, senior Lizzy Dornic, who completed the program last year, was invited to participate as a student mentor this year. In addition to having a program of her own to complete, she hosted monthly meetings for a group of junior scholars. At the end of the program, Lizzy was surprised to receive a $500 stipend! She was also invited to participate in a week long program (similar to Moonshot, but with smaller groups) that could earn her a trip to NASA to build the protoypes created in the challenge.
