Week 0: Put a ring on it edition. |
|
|
Hello, first-time readers and faithful followers!
Welcome (back) to What Weâve Learned, aka your favorite newsletterâs favorite newsletter.
WTH is WWL?
Weâre an odd publication, delivered on even weeks throughout the quarter. Each edition aims to deliver important, student-centered updates with (đ¤) a refreshing balance of information and fun.
Origin story:
At the onset of the COVID pandemmy three years ago (!), WWL rose from the cloth-masked, stay-at-home-sourdough ashes to provide Tritons with timely updates about ever-changing community health and safety policies.
Our current era:
While weâre focusing much less nowadays on âthings that rhyme with vaccine,â our writing style remains pun-heavy and reference-dense, littered with cheeky iconography and try-hard wordplay in equal measure.
WWL newbie?
Check out our historical/hysterical WWL archive.
Been here, done this?
Hello again, oldbie; weâve missed you. - Ian

To get the most out of your companionship with Wi-Fi on campus, itâs all about choosing the right network to partner with.
Protect your assets.
Students should connect to the UCSD-PROTECTED network. This is our most secure option, providing elevated access to non-public UC San Diego network resources.
The roaming empire.
EDUROAM allows users from participating institutions to connect to a secure Wi-Fi network using their home institutionâs credentials.
Access to grind.
Our Wi-Fi network has thousands of âaccess pointsâ that your device connects to as you move from location to location. For tips on speeding-up the reconnection process and optimizing your overall Wi-Fi experience on campus, check out ITSâ recent Campus Notice.

Do Ho Suhâs âFallen Starâ â our favorite Stuart Collection piece (and preferred foreground in quite a lot of lunar photography on campus) â recently reopened for public tours after a COVID-induced closure.
That Do Ho over there.
Perched askew atop a seven-story Jacobs Hall, the fully furnished home sits next to a lush rooftop garden and was constructed with vertigo-inducing interior angles. Book an individual or group tour and prepare to be dazzled / dizzy.

Itâs sorta like collecting money: UC San Diego students ride fare-free on local trolley and bus lines via Transportation Servicesâ Triton U-Pass.
Bussinâ.
Use your U-Pass (but donât move the hyphen) to traverse San Diego at no cost after registering with your @ucsd.edu email address. Learn more via this video from MTS.

After a quiet summer â aside from the construction hammering, that is â our campusâ shared paths are alive with activity once again.
Bustlinâ.
Because more folks + more spokes = more accidents, hereâs a reminder from Transportation on how wheeled and unwheeled Tritons alike can safely navigate shared paths.
Use it, donât bruise it.
Keep your brain in tip-top shape by wearing a helmet while cruising campus on bikes, scooters, and skateboards (heck, even unicycles if youâre about that mono-wheel life).
Safety, at any cost.
Lucky for you, that cost is nearly 80% off when you grab a Giro MIPS helmet for $10, courtesy of the Triton Commuter Club.
