Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month recognizes the history, culture, achievements, contributions and influence of Asian Americans and Pacific Islander Americans in the United States. The theme for 2023 is Advancing Leaders Through Opportunity.

Jewish American Heritage Month
|
May is Jewish American Heritage Month. This yearly observance recognizes American Jews and pays tribute to the generations of Jewish Americans who have helped form the fabric of American history, culture and society. and to view the schedule of events.

May is Haitian Heritage Month which recognizes the valuable contributions made by Haitians to the history of the World. It is a celebration of Haitian history and culture and an opportunity to share this culture with the community. The Haitian Heritage Month celebration is an expansion of the Haitian Flag Day, a major patriotic day celebration in Haiti and the Diaspora.

Scholars’ Forum in the CIT welcomes Dermot Quinn
On May 3 at 4 p.m. don’t miss the sixth Scholars’ Forum in the Catholic Intellectual Tradition. Dermot Quinn, Ph.D., Professor of History in the College of Arts and Sciences and Editor of The Chesterton Review, will be presenting on his recent book publication, Seton Hall University A History, 1856-2006 (Rutgers University Press, 2023). This will be an inspiring and fascinating presentation for the Seton Hall community. Click here to join.

SHU Annual Spring Concert
On May 8 at 7:30 p.m., the Seton Hall University Chorus, Chamber Choir and Orchestra present the Annual Spring Concert, “A Celebration of Spring” at South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC). The Orchestra (under the direction of Prof. Anthony LaGruth) will feature both classical works and music from great films. Selection of this year’s programming was done in accordance with the Seton Hall University Arts Council’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion cultural programming theme of ‘Voices & Visibility’ and features work from and about groups that have been otherwise historically underrepresented. Admission is free day-of with advanced registration available for $5 online. Register for the event here.

The City of Summit is announcing the second annual Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month event will be held on Saturday, May 20. The free event will take place from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the Village Green, located at 356 Broad Street. The entertainment stage will feature performances from groups in different Asian communities.
