Sacramento Approves Police Training to Learn How to Approach Mentally Ill

The Sacramento City Council unanimously approved a proposal from Mayor Darrell Steinberg, Policy & Advocacy Director of the UC Davis BHCOE, giving all Sacramento police officers 40 hours of crisis intervention training to better enable the police force to approach and work with people with mental health issues.

Mental Health Makes the Headlines

Researchers at UC Davis have published a study that illustrates how maternal immune activation could affect neurodevelopment in offspring.
Larry Aguirre, a physician assistant who recently completed a mental health fellowship at UC Davis, describes his experience with a new program at UC Davis to help primary care providers gain additional experience and training in psychiatric care.
Congratulations to our partners at the Steinberg Institute on their recent gift.
Magdalena Cerda, associate professor at UC Davis, presents findings on the legalization of marijuana and the decrease in perceived risk by adolescents. She stated, “With long-term dependence, there are higher risks for mental health problems such as psychosis, depression and cognitive impairment earlier than what would be expected.”
