Comedy for the CommunityIt's almost here! Two opportunities to enjoy the side-splitting comedy of Mark Matusof. We have partnered with Give a Hoot Comedy Club for a weekend comedy show on Friday, March 31, and Saturday, April 1. The club will donate FIFTY PERCENT of the weekend's proceeds to our organization! Invite a friend or two for an evening of laughter and support our mission to connect people of all ages and abilities to their communities to build inclusive and fulfilling lives.
Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. The show begins at 8 pm each night, doors open at 7 pm. Get your tickets now and don't miss the fun!

This self-advocacy group is run by and for people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) in Montgomery County. Each meeting centers around topics that are of interest to the group members, creating a safe place to share.

All under one roof, state agencies, nonprofits, and service providers will be available to answer your questions and help you plan the next steps for your young adult. Resources for job coaching, benefits, and recreation will all be available.

Congratulations to our Tenure Employees!On Sunday, February 5 members of the Board, Leadership, and guests enjoyed an afternoon of recognizing 44 employees celebrating 5,10, 15, 20 & 25 years of service with The Arc Montgomery County.
The annual ceremony was held at VisArts in Rockville, where honored employees received a certificate of appreciation and a gift as our way of saying thanks for their dedication to the mission, the people we support, and their families. We can't say it enough, congratulations!

March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness MonthToday kicks off Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month (DDAM)! All month long we celebrate the strengths and abilities of all people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
What can you do to raise awareness and support people with IDD? Connect with people by sharing your unique story of both victories and challenges and posting your story on social media and be sure to use #DDAM2023. We've come a long way since DDAM was first recognized in 1987, but there's still a lot of work to be done.
Wear orange! The official color of DDAM, orange is a color of energy, enthusiasm, and positivity, so sport the color this month and be ready to share your reason when asked.

Online Fitness ClassesHas your schedule made it difficult to attend fitness classes in person? Well, you're going to love this! Senior Planet in Montgomery County has online fitness classes for seniors 60 years and older.
Whether you want to try Tai Chi or Chair Yoga, maybe it's Fit Fusion, or need a safe way to improve stretch and balance there is something to take your health to the next level. Each class includes a brief description, dates and times of the class, and the Zoom link.

Children with Disabilities in Award-Winning BooksWhile you may have heard of the Newberry and Caldecott medals for children's literature and illustration, the Schneider Family Book Awards might not be as familiar. Since 2004 these awards have been given to authors and illustrators that thoughtfully and artistically represented people with disabilities in literature.
In January, the American Library Association handed out this year's awards for the three different age groups, young children up to 8 years old, the middle grades including 9–13 years old, and teens. The 2023 winners shared the disability experience of someone going deaf, stuttering, and struggling with anxiety.

Free Computers to Eligible Low-Income Residents
Montgomery Connects, Montgomery County's digital equity inclusion program, will be distributing laptops to low-income families in March and April. Their goal is for 100% of county residents to be fully connected to the digital world. Residents who do not have a computer are eligible for the program.
Additional qualifications include:
- A resident of Montgomery County, age 7 or older
- Have a Montgomery County Public Libraries card number
- Only one computer per person
- Every person, including children, must have an appointment and appear in person with a photo ID to receive a computer at scheduled computer distribution events

Car Donations ReimaginedThe Arc United States has partnered with Charitable Adult Rides & Services (CARS) to run their vehicle donation program! CARS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that has operated successful vehicle donation programs for 20 years—returning over $350 million to their nonprofit partners.
If you have a used car, van, truck, boat with a trailer, or recreational vehicle donate it today to The Arc Montgomery County. The proceeds from the sale of donated vehicles help improve the quality of life for people supported. It’s as easy as filling out our online auto donation form. We accept any vehicle regardless of age and condition!
