Safe Promotion of Vaginal Delivery
By Danielle Tate, MD, MBA
In 2023, TIPQC will embark on its next maternal project Promotion of Safe Vaginal Delivery (PVD). There is no better timing for the project in many ways. Recent data from birthing hospitals across the state show the wide variety of Cesarean Delivery rates ranging from 21% to 45%. In addition, the US Department of Health and Human Services recently released the Healthy People 2030 goal for Cesarean Delivery rates. The PVD project aims to decrease the NTSV cesarean delivery rates to < 23.6% (Healthy People 2030 Goal) in all participating birthing facilities in the state by Summer 2024 as well as addressing and improving the established Labor and Delivery cultures. PVD will also include a special focus on equity for the BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) population which data shows has greater disparities related to the promotion of safe vaginal delivery.
