Started by educators, students, and graduates from Stanford, Harvard, and MIT, the Summer STEM Institute is an intensive six-week virtual summer program with students from more than 40 countries. It provides academically talented and highly motivated students the opportunity to learn through a data science and research boot camp, a Masterclass lecture series, weekend challenges, and a mentored research project. Rising junior Mohamed Bullo is proud to represent the Knights at the Summer STEM Institute in its second operational year.
Seattle University offered two pre-college programs this summer with scholarships covering all but $50-200 of tuition for our students. Both of these programs required one week of at-home prep followed by a virtual week of classes. Participants will receive three college credits upon completion. The Albers Summer Business Institute provides youth from African-American, LatinX/Hispanic, Native American Indigenous, and Pacific Islander heritages the opportunity to explore entrepreneurship, marketing, data visualization, accounting, economics, and more. The AI4ALL Program is a learning experience for high school students interested in criminal justice and artificial intelligence. Throughout the two-week program students learn about the intersection of modern technology and criminal justice issues, such as bias and equity, and also get some hands-on experience with law enforcement and tech companies.
Rising sophomore Natnael Araya participated in the Albers program, rising junior Liz Leon Esparza and rising sophomore Jayqueen Gutierrez Monroy participated in the AI program, and rising sophomores Ruby Interian Escobedo, Diana Ku Peraza, and Daniela Santiago-Hernandez were extra busy, attending both of the Seattle University programs.
