Dear Tritons,
As you may be aware, San Diego County and California public health officials recently issued a regional stay at home order (PDF) to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The County order is in effect from today, December 7, until further notice -- but will be in place for no fewer than three weeks.
Why is this regional stay at home order being implemented now?
San Diego county is in the midst of an unprecedented surge in cases and hospitalizations. Without immediate action many hospital Intensive Care Units (ICU) will reach capacity before the end of the year. By taking this action, the County hopes to save lives, protect our health care delivery system and keep those at highest risk and essential workers safe.
What does the order mean for UC San Diego?
- Off-Campus: The Regional Stay Home Order instructs San Diegans to stay at home as much as possible and to stop mixing between households that can lead to COVID-19 spread. It allows access to critical services and allows outdoor activities to preserve Californians’ physical and mental health.
- On-Campus: Tritons are encouraged to stay in their personal residences whenever possible. For the remainder of the Regional Stay at Home Order, the Three’s Company Pilot Program will be suspended.
CDC Public Health Recommendations
Tritons, we ask that you help slow the spread by continuing to follow the CDC’s guidance:
- Universal use of face coverings
- Physical distancing and limiting contacts
- Avoiding nonessential indoor spaces and crowded outdoor settings
- Increased testing, diagnosis, and isolation
Thank you for all that you continue to do to keep each other safer.
Be well,
