Prof. of Greek, Latin, & Ancient Mediterranean Studies Brett Rogers had a chapter published this summer in Artificial Intelligence in Greek and Roman Epic. The chapter is titled "Cyber-Dogs, 'Gut Thinkings,' and the Limits of Recognition in Homer’s Odyssey." Starting with a moment of wonder in Homer's Odyssey, the paper examines the earliest example of cybernetic dogs in ancient Greek epic, trying to make sense of these cyber-dogs in terms of Homeric poetics, other ancient dogs (both robotic and otherwise), and modern ideas from Alan Turing onward about the roles of artificial intelligence.

"They both stand out in the way they communicate and care for families. It’s unique that you have a father-and-son team in the same field of medicine," a colleague told the paper.
