ANHEUSER-BUSCH WHOLESALER SALES AND MARKETING COMMUNICATION MEETING (SAMCOM)

In early February the Music City Center welcomed attendees to the annual SAMCOM meeting for Anheuser-Busch. Over 4,000 people filled the Music City Center to hear the year’s strategic plan for the company and get excited about the brand and brewer’s future. SAMCOM transformed the four Exhibit Halls into different experiences, including the Budweiser and Bud Light Sessions and the Brewing Immersion Lunch. During the General Session there was even an appearance from the famous Clydesdales and Budweiser dog.

Diversity and Small Business Symposium

In January the Music City Center, in partnership with the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce and Fifth Third Bank, hosted the first Diversity and Small Business Symposium. The event brought together companies in the manufacturing, construction, and distribution sectors to have round table discussions about how to do business with some of the major companies in Middle Tennessee.
The morning kicked off with Mayor Megan Barry who spoke to the importance of diversity and inclusion as well as giving small and minority owned businesses more opportunities. The day continued with breakout sessions aimed at learning how to engage in local supplier diversity programs and ended with an opportunity to network with procurement professionals and helpful nonprofits.
“The Diversity and Small Business Symposium gave local businesses the opportunity to make valuable connections,” said Jasmine Quattlebaum, Director of Purchasing of the Music City Center. “In the end, it offered attendees access to insights from high level decision makers from major Middle Tennessee Corporations as well as the chance to talk to them about future opportunities.”

Convention Center Authority Approves The Joseph Hotel Room-Block Agreement

The Convention Center Authority voted unanimously in March to approve a room-block agreement with The Joseph Nashville. The new full-service, luxury hotel, which will be built by Ohio-based developer The Pizzuti Cos. on the 0.75-acre site at Korean Veterans Boulevard and Fourth Avenue South, will bring an additional 297 rooms to downtown. Construction is expected to begin this summer.
Under the room-block agreement, The Joseph Nashville will make 100 rooms available to conventions booked three years in advance, and 75 rooms available to conventions booked between two and three years in advance. This will bring Music City Center’s total room block inventory up to 1,500 rooms for business booked three years in advance. The Convention Center Authority’s other room-block agreements include the Omni, Renaissance and Westin Hotels.
“We are thrilled to welcome The Joseph to Nashville and excited about our partnership with them,” said Charles Starks, President/CEO of the Music City Center. “Our future bookings continue to be very strong and it’s absolutely necessary to our success that we have enough hotel rooms within walking distance available to our clients.”

Third-Quarter Results

The Music City Center announced last week that the building generated $56.3 million in direct economic impact during the third quarter of fiscal year 2017.
The Music City Center hosted 62 events with 132,828 attendees during the third quarter, generating 55,652 room nights for a total of $56.3 million in direct economic impact. Fiscal year-to-date the building has hosted 205 events with 328,799 attendees, generating $196.4 million in direct economic impact. Tax collections continue to outperform expectations and the Music City Center portion of tax collections was up 17.98 percent year over year for January, with total year-to-date tax collections up 20.52 percent over fiscal year 2016.
“The spring has historically been very busy for us and this year is no different. We hosted over 20 events in March, many of which were large, public shows such as the Nashville Home & Remodeling Expo and the Southern Women’s Show,” said Charles Starks, President/CEO of the Music City Center. “Our sales team has done an incredible job keeping the pipeline full and fiscal year 2018 is shaping up to be just as busy.”
