International students can gain important real-world experiences: preparing resumes, searching for jobs and internships, and interviewing with employers. Over 250 employers from top international and local companies will attend. Research who will be there on the Handshake or the “Career Fair +” app.

ISSS advisor Alex Kailer will be there to answer questions about work authorization for international students. Stop by the ISSS table near the volunteer check-in table.

Prep Week Events on Monday, February 10th and Tuesday, February 11th will help you polish your resumé and improve your interview skills. For additional assistance, drop in for one-on-one Career Guidance with Shayna Smith. No appointment needed - just stop by the Campus Avenue Building, room 112, anytime between 2-4 pm on Monday, February 10.

Tips for International Students
  • As an F-1 or J-1 student, you may be eligible for work authorization. Be sure to understand the requirements and nuances of CPT, OPT, and Academic Training. This will inform your communication with employers.
  • Employers may ask international students if they need sponsorship. Be honest and explain that you are eligible to request work authorization while you are an F-1 or J-1 student. However, you must understand that some employers are searching for candidates that they can train through internships as students and can keep as long-term employees after graduation.
  • As an international student, you offer a unique world perspective that makes you valuable as a job candidate. Be confident, share your experience and the advantages you bring to the position. Enjoy the journey to success!

Bus trips
The most agreeable time for those interested in a bus trip to an NBA game is Sunday, April 5.

This trip would depart campus at 2:30 pm and return around 10:30 pm. The total cost for transportation and game tickets would be around $45.

This trip needs at least 20 people for ISSS to arrange, so please sign up if you are interested in attending the NBA basketball game: Indianapolis Pacers vs Orlando Magic on Sunday, April 5. (No payment due at this time.)
Immigration tip
Thinking about working in the U.S. after graduation? Apply for OPT!
F-1 students are eligible to apply for Optional Practical Training (OPT) up to 90 days before completion of degree requirements. This means that students graduating in May 2020 may start submitting their OPT applications to USCIS on February 17. In preparation, please be sure you have read through the OPT information on the ISSS website.
If you have questions about the OPT application process, you are welcome to speak with an advisor during our walk-in advising hours, Mondays-Thursdays from 3:00-4:30pm.

Question: Does taking a course as "credit/no-credit" still count toward full-time enrollment? What about auditing a course?
