This Thanksgiving, practice being Thankful
Giving thanks has many mental and physical benefits. Showing gratitude and voicing what you’re grateful for can help your overall health.
Studies show that feeling thankful can improve your mood, sleep quality, and ability to fight infection. It can also ease anxiety and depression and make you -- and those around you -- happier. Rather than focusing on the negative, retrain your mind to think about the people, places, and experiences that make your life richer.
Try to practice being thankful each day. For example, consider:
- Keeping a notebook. Write down one thing you are grateful for at the end of each day.
- Writing a thank you note. Let someone know how they make a positive difference in your life.
- Taking a walk in nature. This can help clear your mind. It can also help your perspective on things that may seem like very large problems.
- Paying it forward. Help someone or volunteer in the community.
