Dear Valued Member,
Although vigilance remains the watchword, things are changing for the better, both in society and in our industry. It’s the “end of the beginning” to quote Churchill as vaccinations get rolled out, admittedly at vastly different rates for different countries. In our industry, ATMIA has received the first application for an official Next Gen ATM certification. This will truly be a new beginning for a 50 year-old industry, a reinvention, a change of direction. It will signal the dawn of ATM 2.0.

But certified as what? Certified to be compliant to the API-based Next Gen ATM architectural blueprint 2.0 version. Certified as integrating the ATM and the mobile phone and its apps on an interoperable basis within the Next Gen ecosystem. To me, it signifies: certified as future-proofed.
It’s not just the online Next Gen self-certification system that went live during lockdown: ATMIA and the ATM Security Association have completed the construction and testing of a new global Crisis and Crime Intelligence Management System which will be launched this May.  This will be the industry’s first global-scale intelligence system for ATM crime data as well as information related to crises faced by the industry, whether the pandemic, an environmental disaster, a financial crisis, a war or a terrorism incident. The new system will enable the industry to have a new global Response Centre/Center to coordinate intelligence, best practices and information for smart, collaborative solutions and responses.
All of this development and innovation bears testimony to the resilience and inventiveness of the ATM industry which ATMIA proudly serves. Together, we can make sure the future is brighter than the past.
Warmest regards,

Mike Lee

A changing landscape: 2020 sees a global shift in financial malware threats
