Need help with NEW return-to-work (RTW) provisions? 
TRSL has updated its online employer resources to help you get up to speed and comply with the state’s new RTW provisions in Act 149 of 2015.There are several important changes to the law employers need to be aware of:
Retirement age now 62 for new hires
Act 226 of last year's legislative session created a new tier of retirement benefits with different eligibility requirements for newly hired public employees whose membership became effective on or after July 1, 2015. Please keep these eligibility requirements in mind when enrolling new members this fall:
Regular Plan & Plan B eligibility:
  • 5 years of service at age 62 (excludes military service)
  • 20 years of service at any age (actuarially reduced; excludes military service)
Final average compensation (FAC):
  • Five-year FAC with 15% salary cap

PROBLEM: I need to enroll someone with less than 100% effort. How do I calculate it?
SOLUTION: Divide the number of hours the member is scheduled to work by the number of hours in a full day. (The % effort should never be entered as 0%.)
EXAMPLE: If a member is scheduled to work 5 hours a day, and a full day is 7 hours, then the % effort should be entered as 71% (5 ÷ 7 = .714).
