Dear NJCU Faculty and Staff,
We are happy to announce that New Jersey City University will continue the four (4)-day workweek for the period beginning the week of Monday, June 5, 2023 and ending on Friday, August 11, 2023. The schedule provides for the necessary preparation in advance of the Fall 2023 semester. As in past years, this schedule must meet our needs for ensuring business continuity.
All current remote work/work from home schedules ARE SUSPENDED effective June 5, 2023 except as outlined below.
Unlike in prior years, the University is offering two (2) options for summer work during the four-day workweek period as set forth below, subject to the approval of their manager:
ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF
Subject to the approval of their manager, all No Limit (NL) Employees (FLSA Exempt Employees) may work either:
|
- 8 a.m. to 5:15 p.m., Monday through Thursday

-
time off during the (4) day workweek will continue to be charged at the rate of one and one quarter (1.25) days per each day taken off.
|

- 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Friday REMOTE
|
No Limit (NL) employees are expected to work the stated hours plus whatever additional time is necessary to complete their work.
SECRETARIAL/CLERICAL STAFF
Subject to the approval of their manager, all secretarial/clerical staff may work either:
|
- 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday
- (2) 10-minute breaks

Selection of one option over the other will be for the entire four-day work week period (June 5 – August 11). Managers are expected to ensure that employees are adhering to their agreed work schedule and charging any time off appropriately.
STUDENT FACING OFFICES
All student-facing offices, regardless of their Division, will be open on Fridays. Managers will assign rotating shifts so that staff in these areas can benefit from the four-day workweek schedule.
FACILITIES AND PUBLIC SAFETY DEPARTMENTS
The four (4) day workweek does not apply to essential staff, which is defined as the Facilities and Public Safety Departments. Please see your supervisor for more information.
