Panel Discussion: Latin American Art and Politics |

The Visual Arts Gallery, 100 Culver Ave.

This panel will feature the four artists in the exhibition: Jacqueline Herranz-Brooks, Tenjin Ikeda, Katherine Miranda and Felix Morelo, who will discuss their works and practice as they relate to political perspectives. With curator Atim Annette Oton's moderation, they will examine how socio-economic/political contexts behind their work.
Jacqueline Herranz Brooks is a queer writer and educator from Havana, whose creative journey has been shaped by her rich heritage and personal experiences. Tenjin Ikeda is an Afro-Puerto Rican artist born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Katherine Miranda (they/he) is a Latinx, non-binary artist born, raised and based in the Bronx. Felix Morelo is a Colombian/American artist based in New York City.

Curated by Atim Annette Oton of Calabar Gallery, the exhibition explores wide-ranging art making processes, distinctive cultural roots, issues of language, and identity in Latin American art. From installation, painting to photography, this two-gallery exhibition presents the multiplicity of artistic voices from 20 emerging and established artists from the Jersey City and New York Metropolitan area.
Artists in the exhibition are: Alexandra Alvarez, Ray Arcadio, Natali Bravo-Barbee, Vanezza Cruz, Giannina Gutierrez, Jacqueline Herranz-Brooks, Tenjin Ikeda, Sonia Lerebours, Kandy G. Lopez, Maria Lupiañez, Cesar Melgar, Katherine Miranda, Josué Morales Urbina, Felix Morelo, Dayani Munoz, Estrella Munoz, Slyvia Padillia, Ann Tirado, Melissa Ulto and João (Juno) Zago.
