Last weekend, NYU Shanghai hosted the inaugural Qilin Cup sports invitational. • NYU Shanghai Clinical Associate Professor of History L. Bican Polat, Associate Professor of Psychology Cui Lixian, and Clinical Assistant Professor of Global China Studies Amir Hampel were invited by UCCA Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing to organize a panel on the Art and Science of Parenting on Oct 14. The professors explored the widely recognized scientific concept of "attachment theory" within the context of parent-child relationships and discussed how contemporary research on parent-child relationships influences Chinese parenting practices.

• NYU Shanghai's Center for Teaching and Learning hosted the inaugural Best Practices at Global Universities in China Forum on October 27, with the theme of 'Ensuring First-Year Students' Success.' 60 participants from the University of Nottingham Ningbo, Duke Kunshan University, and NYU Shanghai came together to exchange best practices aimed at supporting students' academic transition during their first undergraduate year.

• Consul General of Netherlands in Shanghai Marjo Crompvoets visited NYU Shanghai on November 2. She met with Chancellor Tong Shijun, Vice Chancellor Jeffrey Lehman and Provost Joanna Waley-Cohen, followed by a coffee chat with faculty and student representatives from the Netherlands.

A team of New York University scientists led by NYU Associate Professor Leif Ristroph replicated conditions that existed 4,500 years ago—when the Sphinx was built—to show how wind moved against rock formations and possibly shaped one of the most recognizable statues in the world. Their research was published in Physical Review Fluids.
