Sandy Spring Friends School Announces Closure |
With heavy hearts, BYM shares an announcements from the Sandy Spring Friends School Trustees that the school will close its doors at the end of this academic year. The Trustees named significant debt alongside reduced enrollment as the reason for the decision. Alumni and students have begun organizing to see what might be possible. For more than 60 years, Sandy Spring Friends School has served young people from around the world and been the beloved neighbors to the Yearly Meeting office. Sandy Spring Friends Meeting requests Friends to hold the Meeting, students, workers, and all are are impacted in the Light. Meetings for Worship for Grieving and other spaces to process this news will be shared in the weeks ahead.

Apportionment & Budget Resources
|
Stewardship & Finance requests Monthly Meetings complete the annual Apportionment Questionnaire - available at this link. During last weekend's Budget & Apportionment Meeting, the Clerk of S&F and the General Secretary gave this budget presentation with some early drafts of 2026 budget numbers and an analysis of factors driving the budget imbalance for the camps. The Actuals from 2025 are also now available on the S&F webpage.

Thursday, Ministry & Pastoral Care Coffee Hour

The BYM Ministry & Pastoral Care Committee will be hosting their next Coffee Hour on April 24th at 7pm on Zoom under the queries: How is your Meeting holding space for compassionate and connected conversation in the midst of unsettling times? How are we called to exercise moral courage at this time? The BYM Ministry & Pastoral Care Coffee Hours of a mixture of worship sharing and discussion - and all are welcome!

- YF Grad Con will be Fri-Sun, May 16-18 at the BYM Office in Sandy Spring

Next weekend, partners at Rolling Ridge Conservancy and Still Point Mountain Retreat are hosting a volunteer work weekend!

Dunnings Creek Still Listening Event, May 4th
|
Dunnings Creek Friends Meeting (Quakers) will present the Spring 2025 event in their ‘Still Listening’ guest speaker series on local history on May 4th at 2:00pm. Harriett L. Gaston will present The Great Migration to Claysburg, PA: 1910-1930 and 1940-1960 at the Meetinghouse in Fishertown.

Adelphi Friends Meeting invite you to join them at Friends Community School for their next Repair Cafe on Sat, May 3, 10am - 2pm. Bring your broken items such as toasters, lamps, clothes (that
need mending or buttons sewn on), jewelry, electronics, bikes, and computers for fixing! Back by popular demand, knife sharpening will also be available.
