Important Dates and Deadlines

Academic Advising and Scheduling

Students in grades 9-12 have successfully completed their course requests for the 2023-24 school year. Schedules will be available in August at orientation.

Graduation Requirements

*Note: NOCA requires 27.5 credits

Service 

Students are required to complete 24 hours of community service per year. Students may work ahead to secure hours. However, they are asked to submit service hour logs no later than May 5 in order for transcripts to be updated before the end of the year. Students who fail to complete service hours may be ineligible to graduate.

Ohio Means Jobs

Students in grades 9 and up must complete the OMJ Readiness Seal Validation Form.  Please submit completed forms for the 2023-24 school year no later than May 5.

Transcript Requests

Transcript requests must be submitted two weeks before any scholarship or college application deadline. Please deposit transcript requests in Mrs. Desmond's box outside her office door for processing. Transcript requests will not be processed over the summer for college applicants. Transcript requests will resume August 1.

Letters of Recommendation

Juniors received training on the correct way to solicit a letter of recommendation from a teacher. Teachers also received instruction on how to craft thoughtful letters that maximize a student's ability to gain admission into a college or earn scholarships. Students must submit a cover letter, copy of their resume, and a copy of their transcript to each teacher they have requested a letter from. Requests must be made at least two weeks before the due date.

Testing

NOCA students in 11th grade took the SAT in March. Score reports should be available soon. Please log-in to your college board account to view your SAT score. Click on FAQ about the SAT to learn more about how to order score reports. Please note: NOCA does not send score reports to colleges.

Work Permits 

Students who need to secure summer employment are encouraged to plan ahead. Work permits take about 24 hours to process during the months of August through May. Summer applications may take longer.

Employers should provide employees with the work permit, along with the approved hours the student is scheduled to work. Applicants must do the following:

1. Complete all fields on the permit application

2.. Obtain a physical

College Visits

High school students are encouraged to be thoughtful about their future. Spring Break and summer time are ideal times to visit college campuses. When discerning whether a college is a good fit, students should evaluate the following:

• Location (metropolitan vs. rural)
• Academic Majors
• Admission Requirements
• Student Life (mission)
• Student Body Size (large vs. small school)
• Graduation, Retention, and Post Graduate Employment Rates 
• Cost
• Extra-Curricular and Sports Offerings
• Support Services

College Credit Plus (CCP)

Students who are taking a College Credit Plus course in the 2023-24 school year should submit their Letter of Intent to Mrs. Desmond by April 1. Please click on the CCP Checklist and make sure that you have completed all steps.

Work-Based Learning Opportunity for Rising Seniors

Rising seniors were issued a work based learning opportunity project. Students are asked to complete 6-18 hours of a job shadowing experience at a job site of their choosing. Possible shadow sites may be based on interest and data obtained from Naviance surveys. Packets were sent home. Parents are asked to assist students with work placement sites. Students must follow directions printed on the cover sheet that details each step of the project. Completed packets and experiences are asked to be completed by August 16.

Economics for Success

NOCA is pleased to offer Economics for Success through the Junior Achievement program. Students in grades 7 and 8 will investigate principles of sound financial decision making and budgeting principles through a series of mini-lessons throughout the month of April.
