Publications & Recognitions |
- On 6 Feb, Michael Reilly was the keynote speaker for a National Intelligence University course on Leadership & Management located at the National Security Agency in Ft Meade, MD. His lecture is titled “Leadership in the Intelligence Community.”
- Dr. Ki Eun Kang, ISTPP Fellow, and ISTPP Director Dr. Arnold Vedlitz have published a paper about public-private partnerships (PPPs) in Policy Studies. Their work, based on an NSF funded research project, aimed to understand how the general public views different PPP options and arrangements. The study's overarching results reveal a discerning perspective among the public in that respondents differentiate between various types of PPPs. Furthermore, it was observed that their preferences for specific PPP models are intricately linked to their opinions on policies related to community engagement in infrastructure projects.
- Dr. So-Min Cheong was appointed as a member of the World Health Organization (WHO)'s Technical Advisory Group on Climate Change, the Environment and Health in the Western Pacific Region.
- Professor Andrew L. Ross, who is in residence at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), in X Theoretical Design—Director’s Office, under his joint appointment at LANL, was invited to speak at the Exchange Monitor’s annual Nuclear Deterrence Summit, which was held in Washington, DC, from 31 January to 2 February 2024. Dr. Ross spoke at the session on “Strategic Deterrence Initiatives.” He discussed “The Director’s Strategic Resilience Initiative: Resilience and Innovation,” the project he has been working on at LANL. Other speakers at the Summit included leadership of DOE’s National Nuclear Security Administration, the directors of the three nuclear weapons laboratories, the leads of the weapons programs at each of the three laboratories, and officials from the Department of Defense, the Joint Staff, and the Department of State. Over 600 people attended the Summit.
- Dr. William Brown, CNP Director, was recently invited to speak on a live television interview and news interview in Zimbabwe after traveling to the country to complete a four-month engagement with the U.S. Embassy in Zimbabwe's Public Diplomacy (PD) program. He spoke with Zimbabwe Television (ZTN) and conducted a news interview with The Standard newspaper about NGO and CSO sustainability in Zimbabwe after recent legislation changes. During his visit, Dr. Brown met with five NGOs to gain valuable insight into their work and provide further guidance on operating sustainably. Read The Standard interview here.
- Benjamin Helms, Assistant Professor of International Affairs published War on Aisle 5: Causalties, National Identity, and Consumer Behavior, on February 1 in the Journal of Conflict Resolution. The article confirms that international events can shift individual values and influence real-world behavior.
- Dr. Mohammad Tabaar, associate professor in the Department of International Affairs, was featured in Foreign Affairs for his piece titled, Iran’s New Best Friends: The Houthis Have Become Key Partners in Tehran’s Quest for Regional Dominance.
