Summer 2019

That's a Wrap!

After a 46-year career, Dr. Larry Moneta retires at the end of this month. He served as the vice president for student affairs at Duke for nearly two decades.
Clay Adams, Associate Dean of Students and Director of Parent and Family Programs, sat down with Larry for a final interview about his time at Duke and his parting words of wisdom to parents. Watch the video below.
Among Larry’s accomplishments at Duke are adding Penn Pavilion and the Student Wellness Center to West Campus; renovating the West Union, now named the Brodhead Center; allocating space and resources for cultural and identity centers on campus; and developing the Duke Parents Advisory Council. A huge thanks to Larry for his support of students (and parents) over the last 18 years!

Commencement Recap

We hope our graduating families are still cherishing fond memories of commencement weekend!
For those families who missed the action or simply want to relive it, the Office of News and Communications created a beautiful recap of the preparations, ceremony, and weekend festivities. A full recording of the commencement speech from Lisa Borders, Duke alum and board of trustees member, can be found here.

Summer Transitions

Office of Parent and Family Programs

Parent and Family Programs takes a hiatus over the summer, but we will be back in full swing in August when Duke welcomes back students and, of course, their families. Newsletters will resume in September.

Class of 2019 Facebook

With the graduation of the Class of 2019, our Class of 2019 parents and families will also graduate from our associated Duke Facebook group. The official group will close at the end of July so that Duke personnel can transition their support to families of the incoming class. We sincerely thank Penny Fleming, Dana Williams Dudley, and Beth Gabay for their time and dedication to moderating this Facebook group.
Parent and Family Programs sends a fond farewell to all of our graduating families! Congratulations to your students, and thank you for partnering with us over the last four years. #ForeverDuke

Construction on Campus

Because most students are away, summer is a popular time to make improvements to college campuses. Duke is abuzz with installations and upgrades, from road repairs to expanding dining facilities. Read this Duke Today article for more insights into campus construction.
