is now accepting resumes for a full-time position as Library Media Specialist

Responsibilities: 

  • Help to maintain an inclusive and welcoming environment for everyone.

  • Find innovative ways to incorporate technology and media literacy into class visits and library programs.

  • Partner with the Department of Technology to teach students the importance of critical analysis to locate valid internet sources for their research and daily lives.

  • Teach the students how to use our collection of research databases.

  • Ability to teach and use the technology in our Makerspace, including vr goggles,3D pens, robotics kits, green screen and video editing technology to produce student videos.  

  • Comfortable with researching, learning and ordering new technology to be used in the Makerspace, as we are constantly looking for new and exciting products to incorporate into our growing technology collection.

  • Keep in-tune with the current YA book trends and new publications as well as curriculum and research needs to compile a collection of the best titles suited to our students’ and teachers’ academic and recreational interests.

  • Assist with collection development including collection policies, processing new acquisitions, shelving, and weeding.

  • Supervise students in the Library and Makerspace.

  • Reader advisory skills to assist the community with book selections to promote a love of reading.

  • Collaborate with faculty to design and teach lessons that involve literacy information and to enhance the curriculum with library materials and the Makerspace technology.

  • Moderate the Junior Librarian Club.

  • Coordinate student volunteers for the Library and Makerspace.

  • Be available to open the Library before and after school hours.

  • Be well-informed of cultural events and celebrations to craft eye-catching book displays throughout the year.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Other Professional Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safety of students under your supervision.

  • Keep accurate and organized records

  • Assist with non-instructional and/or extracurricular supervision of students, as needed.


Qualifications:
  • Masters of Library/Information Sciences from an accredited program with a concentration in School Librarianship is preferred.

  • Teacher training preferred.

  • Experience working in a school library preferred

  • Extensive knowledge of and enthusiasm for young adult and adult literature. 

  • Must be self-motivated and able to work independently. 

  • Excellent written and oral communication, presentation, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work well with colleagues.
